I would guess that it's very hard to tell someone all they need to know about a particular breed of dog in one book. But still, The Everything Boxer Book is so general, it really doesn't help much. For most dog owners, I would think that common sense would tell you to get to the vet if your dog has an open sore you've just noticed or becomes lethargic or has other noticeable problems. You don't need to read a book to know that going to the vet is the right thing to do here. That's about all the advice this book can give.

Even in regard to training, this book falls a bit short. It stresses that your dog know the basic commands and provides short paragraphs purporting to explain how to teach these things...but the training section, overall, is not very helpful. Another victim of trying to hit a bit of every conceivable topic and not providing enough information about any one thing.

Oh well, I'll still keep it around, if for no other reason than to have a reference listing and quick description of the ailments boxers are most prone to.

This book was quite helpful for someone that is considering getting a boxer. She covers many topics at a surface level from the history of boxers, to proofing your house for a boxer, to the different types of dog shows that are available. I would recommend this book for anyone on the fence about buying a boxer. For someone that has experience owning dogs, boxers in particular, most of the info is self explanatory but still good to refresh yourself.
