Any book that ends with my kids saying “I liked it! I am going to tell all my friends” and then they proceed to make plans to explore the forest the next day get 5 stars in my book. Henry Explores the Mountains was a delightful read-aloud.

Henry and his dog Angus decide to explore the mountains. They discover and report a forest fire and return home in a helicopter.

Good story and bright pictures. Not suitable for babies.

Along with "Henry the Explorer" and "Henry Explores the Jungle," I loved this book as a child. Short, squat, intrepid little Henry with his adorable little flags and his unflappable, faithful dog Angus McAngus bring back such sweet memories to me. I've GOT to find these for my kids!

Love the illustrations in this 1975 publication! I also love the reminder to set up waypoints/trail markers when hiking in remote areas.
