VERONICA EDEN YOU HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!!!! CONSTANTLY RAISING THE BAR FOR ALL OF US!!!!!!
I loved every minute of this book and finished it in pretty much one sitting. I absolutely loved Tempting Devil, so my hopes and expectations were very high for Ruthless Bishop and let me say, I am over the moon (no pun intended).
There’s a pretty serious topic this book deals with, and I think it’s been written really well when it comes to the outlook of the character first kind of processing the news. It’s really expected and very normalised for a trauma survivor.
Bishop and Thea have amazing chemistry - I loved them together and I loved them as individual characters as well. I think they have such a sweet dynamic to them and serve a lot of different tropes which is pretty cool. They’re a very soft pairing with veryyyyyy sexy scenes. Veronica knows how to write some good sex. They have that fire between them and I loved the push and pull between them both. Bishop and Thea were so in love and I loved reading about their love. They make such a great couple and I enjoyed reading every minute of them. They’ve truly stolen me I adore them I can’t even really muster up the right words to justify it.
I especially really like that Bishop has a big storyline surrounding his family environment and it’s more genuine than a typical high school athlete type of storyline that is usually used and is overdone in YA. I love that we get real insight into his family and how his family members and his personal experiences have impacted him, his values and behaviours. Bishop is one of those typical jerkish jocks so it seems, but Thea is pretty fast to unravel him and we see that he softens with her. He holds himself accountable in situations he should and I loved that about him. I truly loved that he wasn’t the typical ‘well I am the way I am because of my emotional baggage, so accept that or leave’; and that he was really able to adapt throughout every situation. His arc was great, I loved all of it. I love love love Bishop.
As for Thea, my absolute ray of sunshine!!! She’s the sweetest thing ever. Yet, she is extremely headstrong and not easily docile or submissive at the hands of others which I enjoyed seeing. She has a side of gentleness and kindheartedness, but is also determined, persistent, has a backbone and isn’t a soft girl push over/soft girl trying to be a bad bitch. She was overall very sweet and it’s sweet to have seen her scenes with Blair from her perspective and additional ones too. They’re so to die for. Thea really pulled a number on me when she was so adamant about her standpoint towards the end of the book and closed minded about seeing any other perspective but it’s kind of justified considering it’s in her nature to see the best in people. What I would’ve liked to see more for Thea was more involvement from her mum. There were talks about her being very strict and conservative which I can see, but I feel there should’ve been more involvement in Thea’s life from her considering Thea’s main issues with her mum was her mum being unwilling to give up control of her and her life.
The scenes between Devlin and Bishop were some of my favourites. I loved seeing their scenes so much and they have such a pure, warm, caring bond between each other. I adored seeing that more in depth! And, the scenes between Devlin, Blair and Bishop were hilarious. I love the thought of them as a trio and they call for a lot of humour when they’re together. Overall, really sweet friendships. I loved this read so so so much!
