Nature Guide to the Carolina Coast: Common Birds, Crabs, Shells, Fish, and Other Entities of the Coastal Environment by Peter Meyer (Avian-Cetacean Press 1991) (591.5796). I know the flora, the fauna, the flotsam, and the jetsam of the North Carolina coast. This is without a doubt the one field guide I would count on at the Carolina shore to identify the sea life around me. My rating: 9/10, finished 11/1/10. I finally bought a PB copy from Amazon on 12/12/18, and I reread this 1/26/19. PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
Excellent guide book when walking the shores of the Carolina's. I enjoyed correctly identifying shells on the seashore, as well as identifying plant life near the shoreline.
Excellent, plain language descriptions of what you see on the coast and in the marshes. I have both editions and really enjoy them. If you spend any time on the Carolina coast, you'll enjoy this.
Excellent overview of coastal wildlife. Perfect for the beginners. Would love to see an update/revision. Enjoyed the authors notes on seafood, conservation, touroids, random thoughts on the local area & wildlife, great glossary & index.
Read this while at the beach. Very helpful for identifying shells and gulls. I haven't really mastered gulls. I also learned a lot about jellyfish and alligators.
Must read for anyone spending any time at the Carolina Coast. Photos, illustrations, text are all well-done. Can't wait to go back to the beaches now that I have absorbed this book.
