The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob is a children's book series based upon timeless principles of achievement. The stories, and the lessons they reveal, are inspired by the work of outstanding individuals who have spent their lives researching and teaching these principles, including Wallace D. Wattles, Napoleon Hill, Earl Nightingale and, for the past fifty years, Bob Proctor. While many of the principles in The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob may appear basic or widely accepted, they are often not taught to children as part of a regular school curriculum. We hope that the Blue Ocean Bob books and products are fun, colorful and inspiring while they also provide children with a framework for success in any endeavor they choose to pursue. In addition, we hope the Blue Ocean Bob characters and stories will develop an appreciation and respect for our oceans and sea life in children from an early age. In Volume One, a picture book entitled Blue Ocean Bob Discovers His Purpose , young Bob yearns for a greater sense of fulfillment. Accompanied by his friend Xena, an overly cautious hummingbird, he sets out to ask the happy sea creatures to share their wisdom with him. His quest leads him first to Al, a playful and spirited dolphin, and then to the local sage, an old turtle named 'Doc,' who finally helps Bob realize his passion and discover his purpose - to protect the sea, and all life within it.
The cover on this is very colourful and eye catching, whilst giving a sense of calm also. The font the book uses is fairly big, so it makes a change. Bob doesn't know how to be content, and wants more from life, so with the aid of his friend, Xena, a gorgeously coloured hummingbird, he embarks on a journey of self discovery.
The motto on the back of the book is 'Think it. See it. Believe it. Achieve it.' This statement is echoed within the pages, as Bob searches to find more meaning in his life. Whilst this may sound a difficult concept to put forward to children, Brooks Olbrys has done a great job in making this child friendly. The book is a rhyming one, which is a big favourite in our household, and this one proved no different. The illustrations are beautifully done, inviting the reader to come on a voyage of discovery with Bob, as he visits the dolphins, and Doc, the elderly turtle to discover what it is he truly desires.
My favourite quote within the pages is: 'Decide what you love, what excites and inspires - then make that your purpose and watch what transpires.'
The favourite illustration in the book for our young reviewers was one in which Doc the turtle sits at his desk, giving wisdom on problems, whilst Bob waits his turn. Doc is also their favourite character, bringing in wisdom and insight for Bob.
I look forward to reading more from this author. This is the first book I've come across which imparts a sense of positive thinking and gives life lessons for children, I hope there's many more to come (NB, currently not available on Amazon UK).
Bob is a daydreamer like most kids his age. He lives on an island and his friends are a bird named Xena, a dolphin named Al and a turtle named Doc. Living on the island was nice, but Bob wondered if this was all there was to his life. He just wasn't content. Bob wanted to learn more. He wanted to do more with his life. He decided to go on a quest. He wanted to find out from the sea creatures what he could do to find more joy and more happiness. He asked Al the dolphin what he should do and he suggested that he visit Doc, the wise old turtle.
So Bob summoned courage and asked the olde gent, Please tell me how to be truly content? Doc tipped his spectacles, gave bob a glance, adjusted his shell and re-buckled his pants. Then he said, We've just met, but my instincts are sound, and the answer you seek is quite easily found.
Bob thought and smiled. He knew exactly what he wanted to do. He knew exactly what he wanted to be. He would dedicate his life to the sea. He would become a marine biologist.
Blue Ocean Bob is a wonderful rhyming quest for children. The beautiful illustrations open the door to the possibilities of marine life and what that entails. This is a great opportunity for parents and teachers to show children what it would be like to live in the sea. Kids could be introduced to sea life and create pictures of their favorite sea creatures. I highly recommend this book.
Despite his idyllic island life, young Bob yearns for a greater sense of purpose. Accompanied by his friend Xena, an overly cautious hummingbird, he sets out to ask the happy sea creatures to share their wisdom with him. His quest leads him first to Al, a playful and spirited dolphin, and then to the local sage, an old turtle named Doc, who finally helps Bob realize that by following his bliss, he will find true fulfillment. Thus begins Brooks Olbrys heart-warming and colorful new picture book series, The Adventures of Blue Ocean Bob, inspired by the success philosophies of Bob Proctor, Napoleon Hill, Earl Nightingale and others. Readers will thrill to Bob s maritime adventures while learning valuable life lessons from this endearing new hero as he discovers his true purpose - to protect the sea, and all life within it.
My 2 cents:
My children just got done reading this book and they enjoyed it. I thought the rhyming was great and my 7 year old thought it was fun. The illustrations were well done. The book is set out to teach Bob and any child how to make decisions and to be careful with them. To follow your dreams is a great rule.
Blue Ocean Bob is a new motivational book series for children. Author Brooks Olbrys has based this series on the success philosophy of motivational guru Bob Proctor.
I honestly expected this book to be boring or preachy. I was pleasantly surprised to find I was quite wrong. Charming illustrations and rhyming text made this a fun read.
This books encourages readers to appreciate life, discover their passions and follow their dreams.
The book teaches the ideas found on the logo on the back of the book which reads: Think it. See it. Believe it. Achieve it.
A great book to help children be more positive, upbeat and optimistic.

Blue Ocean Bob, is a boy who knows there is much more for him to accomplish in life so he sets off on a journey. His friend Xena the hummingbird goes with him as he travels the ocean and asks various sea animals what their secret to happiness and contentment in life is. They advise him to find what he is most passionate about and to jump into it with everything he has. It is then he realizes the thing he is most passionate about is protecting the creatures in the sea and so he makes it his life’s dream to pursue. This is a wonderful and motivational book that is great for any child (or adult). Such a simple message told in such a beautiful way.
Blue Ocean Bob lives on a tropical island. He is trying to find a purpose to his life. He talks to his sea friends and goes on a journey to seek council from an old turtle. The turtle tell him "Discover your passion, then simply jump in. Decide what you love, what excites and inpires - then make that your purpose and watch what transpires."
That is great advice for anyone, not just chilren. I like that it teaches children to find what they like and then go for it.
When I read this with my first graders, I needed to explain the meanings of many words. Because of challenging vocabulary - both in pronunciation and meaning - I recommend Blue Ocean Bob for grades 2 and up. Despite the difficult to sound out words (sight words), children will love the story and illustrations and want to grow into a better reader with this book.
Overall: This book is about a boy who goes on a trip to try and find his purpose. The message, looking inside yourself instead of expecting others to give you your purpose, is a great message for kids to learn early. It is wrote in a rhyming style and is very easy to read. My son is really into maps, looking at and drawing, so his favorite part was the inside covers where he could follow the path that Bob takes in the story.
