MOON DANCE
Mother, wife, private investigator...vampire. Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire. Now the world at large thinks Samantha has developed a rare skin disease, a disease which forces her to quit her day job and stay out of the light of the sun. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there is a reason why he survived five shots to the head.

DARK HORSE
Dark Horse takes place in Huntington Beach, California. Surf City, USA. Written in the tradition of Robert B. Parker's Spenser and Raymond Chandler's Philip Marlowe, Dark Horse introduces a new hard-hitting, wise-cracking hero with a modern twist. When high school student Derrick Booker, the only black student at a posh Orange County high school, is accused of killing his white girlfriend, ex-college football hero and detective Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper into the murder. It doesn't take long for Knighthorse to realize that not all is as it seems at tranquil Huntington High, from a band director who preys on the innocent to a vice-principal with a secret agenda of her own. Not to mention someone's hired a professional killer to keep Knighthorse permanently off the case.

THE VAMPIRE WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
Three years ago, high school student Veronica Fortune witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. Now armed and dangerous, she sets out to hunt down the very thing that destroyed her life. That is, until she disappears. Spinoza is a private investigator who specializes in finding the missing. He's good at what he does. Damn good. But he's also a recovering alcoholic and a royal mess. Hired to find Veronica, Spinoza won't let his personal demons—or demons of any kind—get in the way of finding the truth about the missing girl. Now following a bizarre set of clues that leads him into stranger and stranger territory, Spinoza is about to come face-to-face with something legendary...and something hungry for blood.

Three VERY different stories in this book, all very different from each other, but at least it gave me a good idea of how this author writes. The first was a vampire story, pretty good; the second was about a ghost and it made me cry, but a good cry; and, the third was more to my liking - the search for Noah's Ark. I will definitely look for other of his books.

liked all 3 of these short stories. I finished the Samantha Moon series a while ago, and enjoyed it, so I wanted to check out the authors other 2character books. I would read these other 2 as lighter reading then I am use to..all in all good stories to build upon.

Rainy Nights by JR Rain has three novels:

Moon Dance -- Samantha Moon is a mother of two children, a Private Investigator, and a vampire. Was fascinating how she deals with being a vampire while trying to lead a normal life. Enjoyed this very much.

Dark Horse -- Jim Nighthorse is a private investigator, a former college football player who is trying to get back in the game, and a man who doesn't have too many problems with dealing out his own form of justice when it's called for. He has his own personal demons that he deals with and that makes him very likable.

The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo -- Spinoza is a private investigator still dealing with the death of his wife and son, and working hard to keep from drinking. He also finds out that vampires really do exist.

I enjoyed all three novels, but Moon Dance is my favorite. Started reading Rainy Nights last evening and finished in the early morning hours.

This was a great introduction to any reader who hasn't picked up this author yet! Three novels from different series by him. I'm really into Samantha Moon. I'm looking forward to reading more of her series. She's smart, sassy and I want to see where things go with the werewolf!

Jim Knighthorse was a cocky PI who has witty comebacks and you love to hate him! He keeps you on your toes with his intuition and great detective skills!

Then you have Spinoza. He's that PI that will get on everyone's nerves, but you have to love him. He's a great detective with some heavy insights to everything. I loved the slight paranormal plot. It was quite different!

If you love mysteries, PI's and paranormal, pick this up! So worth it.

The 1st and last story in this set of 3 include vampires. Personally, I enjoyed Moon Dance the best and will definitely read the rest of that series. Dark Horse was not as interesting to me (no supernatural characters) but still a fun read. The main character in The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo is unnecessarily violent and is not even the vampire (which would have explained the violent tendencies). Yet, this book is still intriguing and I'll have to try at least the 2nd in the series to see where it leads.

3 1/2 stars for this one. They were three nice little reads but I found them a bit meh to my tastes unfortunately. There are three stories, from three different series. I wouldn't go on to continue reading these series myself. They just didn't peek my interest. In saying that is you love detective stories, and can relate to these characters not doubt you will enjoy these stories and maybe the series they come from. Great way to introduce new readers and maybe I will go back one day and visit these characters again.

There was a story overlap from the last set so it was faster to finish this one. I liked the main story well enough to finish it in one go and it's been the favourite so far but they still don't grab me but they are worth a read. I haven't pushed one away unfinished.

I liked this book, but for me I thought it started off kinda slow. I was going to stop reading it but I am glad I decided to finish it. I still think overall it was a good read.
