I received this book from a great friend while in living/working in Costa Rica as a Peace Corps volunteer. it was a X-mas gift that I didn't expect in the mail and was very touched by it. I think most of the things said in this book are so true and it's proof of why Emilio has become such a successful entrepreneur that started from the bottom. I believe him; highly recommend this book for some thoughtful insight on what it may take for you to find your own success. This book also inspired me to write a book of my own...

Excelente libro por uno de los mas importantes y exitosos productores del mundo. Sumamente motivacional, este libro nos narra su vida y salida de Cuba cuando tan solo eran un niño, sus vicisitudes, sus metas y su llegada a Estados Unidos donde comienza su vida como ciudadano libre y luego pasa a inspirarnos con todos sus consejos practicos y su filosofia de vida. Altamente RECOMENDADO para cualquiera que esté en el negocio de la Música aunque no es necesario estar relacionado a la música para sacarle partido a este libro.

Hace varios años, cuando no podía pagar por comprar un libro, por la situación económica, compré este libro con la intención de aprovechar la información y devolverlo. Este review no tiene que ver con su contenido, pero vale la pena recordar mi historia. Comparar como eran las cosas antes, y como son ahora, me ayuda a entender que toda esa información me sirvió para llegar donde estoy.

Le recomiendo leer este libro a cualquier persona que esté interesada en la industria de la música y el entretenimiento.

Update nearly a year later: I lost interest in this book and didn't pick it back up again. But I imagine that someday, I will.

I'm only at the beginning of this book. So far, it's a great read. For those of you who don't know, Emilio Estefan is Gloria Estefan's husband, a wonderful producer and stellar writer (from what I've read so far). The book chronicles his journey from Cuba to the U.S. with his father, and his steady climb to the top of the Latin American music empire.

It's not that I didn't like this book. There were a lot of good business tips and self-help info included. However I thought it would be more of a biography and would talk more about his life and how he got where he did. I suppose in a sense he did, but without giving details. There was also a lot of repetition in the chapters which made it a little hard to read. Not a bad book but more something that could be used for people trying to start their own businesses.

Very inspiring book with many positive points of advice that can be applied to your personal life. It made me rethink my focus in life and remember what I was taught as a youngster from my elders, but for some reason have forgotten. I could relate to his motivation to succeed in the US because my ancestors struggled but ultimately surpassed their goals.

Though it is theoretically about business, many if not all of the lessons apply to life as well. And all with the backdrop of the story of an immigrant (well, eventually two) and all the contributions he has made to life here - a message at least one politician desperately needs to hear today.
