It's August on Cape Cod and Willa has a lot to look forward to. Soon, JFK will return home from baseball camp, and Willa has an idea for an exciting new project that will challenge her to dream big! But life throws Willa some unexpected twists and Ruby has bad news, a beloved friend leaves, a dear friend returns, her brother Will has something he does't want to talk about, and of course, there's a wedding to plan! There's also a cute boy who likes Willa . . . a lot, and Willa thinks she might like him too. It's a summer full of romance and surprises!
I majored in English at The College of Saint Rose, in Albany, and after two internships in advertising and public relations, decided to enter the communications field, which is a place where writers can write and make a living too. I got married three months after graduation (my husband Tony and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary next August ), and we moved to Connecticut. I worked at a large advertising/pr firm during the day and got my master's in English at Trinity College nights. When we moved back to the Albany, New York area a few years later, I took a job as a publicist for Russell Sage College in Troy and soon became Director of Communications for the Sage Colleges. Our son, Christopher, was born in 1989. Two years later I took out a small-business loan, left my "safe job" and founded Books Worth Writing, to develop and publish The Remembering Book, an heirloom-quality tribute to a loved one's life (created after losing my best friend to cancer and wanting to be sure the story of her life was remembered and celebrated). This book-product is now in its 3rd printing, 10,000 copies sold. Around that same time, I began teaching as an adjunct instructor in the English Department at Russell Sage, doing freelance public relations assignments for business and nonprofit clients, and leading public-speaking workshops for women. Our son, Connor, was born in 1992 and then our third son, Dylan, in 1994. After Dylan was born, I hopped off the career train for a few years to chase after three boys under the age of 5. I wrote a song for each of my sons and sang their special songs to them as bedtime lullabies. I kept a journal (I have on and off since college), wrote poems, and "roasts" for friends' birthdays, planted a perennial garden, a vegetable garden, read tons of books, started a book club, cleared a walking trail in the woods behind our house…and with my three young sons in tow, I returned to my "library days." We devoured books together, morning, noon and night. We'd fill an L.L. Bean sack full of picture books every week, snuggle up on the couch, and read, read, read. I didn't know it at the time, but in addition to it being enormously FUN, this was fabulous research. As I was devoting my best creative energy to my children and sharing my love of books with them, I was soaking in lessons in characterization and plot and structure and language... feeding my writer's voice in happy hibernation. I still didn't know that I would write children's books, yet everything in my life was leading me on that path. Ironically, I'd meet former business colleagues out and about and they'd say, "you're writing children's books, right?" I can't tell you how many people asked me that. It wasn't my goal or my intention. Breaking into this business was the hardest and longest race I've ever run. I wrote stories for four years before I felt the work was ready. And then, once my writing was of publishable quality, it took two years of submitting before I got a contract. 179 rejections later. You've got to want it badly. You've got to read, read, read, and write, write, write and revise, revise, revise, and listen to people who are wiser than you, and learn from your rejections, and take comments from editors very seriously, and be willing to catch the fireflies of inspiration before they fly off forgotten, and, most of all, you've got to BELIEVE in yourself. Believe, believe, believe. Emerson said "nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm." Write on.
From Willa, With Love is the fifth installment in Paratore’s Wedding Planner’s Daughter series. While Willa expects her summer to be boring without JFK (as she likes to call her boyfriend), it’s actually pretty eventful. Her half-brother Will looks for their father, there are weddings and there is sad news. There is also a cute boy who seems to be expressing interest in her….
I hadn’t realized that this was the fifth installment in a series when I requested an advanced copy for review, but while I was expected to know some characters, I found it fairly easy to follow the storyline. I love Willa’s character. She’s a sweet girl with a passion for planning weddings and serving her community. I adore her love for books; it’s a great characteristic that tweens can love from her. Her ideas of raising money for humane causes and of giving her books away are brilliant and inspiring!
Honestly, I feel like there could have been more character development in this book. While Willa is dynamic and relatable, the other characters felt flat to me. I believe that it’s because so many side plots were being developed that Paratore didn’t have enough time to spend on each one considering how short the novel is. Still, I realize that the characters have been developed over the course of the series, which I have yet to read. I know that tweens will adore Willa, fall in love with Will’s charming personality, and become as torn with Willa between JFK and Jess. And if they haven’t read the series before—like me—they’ll find themselves running to the bookstores to buy a set.
While this book does introduce a love triangle, I like Willa’s decision in the end. So as not to give away anything, I’m going to say that there hasn’t been enough development of romance in the book for a ‘real’ conclusion to be made. Tweens who have enjoyed reading this series will be looking forward to another installment in this series.
It's the summer before her sophomore year, and Willa Havisham has a lot going on. Her mother is in the middle of planning a huge wedding at their Cape Cod inn, and she is getting to know the half-brother she never knew she had. While her boyfriend, JFK, is in Florida visiting his grandparents, Willa is drawn to Jessie, a friend of JFK's. Middle grade readers will enjoy reading this book, the fifth in the series, since Willa is so open and may remind them of themselves as they grow up in the same way that Phyllis Reynolds Naylor's Alice series resonates with them. Despite her busy life, Willa is an avid reader and writer who wants to make a difference in the world. Even though she's 14, she takes tangible steps to do so. I loved the quotes about literacy at the beginning of each chapter delightful, and I liked how the author took pains to mention the books Willa was reading as well as some comment about them. The only thing that bothered me about her summer book list was the fact that her librarian gave her Make Lemonade after noting that she had read and liked True Believer. Most of us series readers like to read them in order, and Make Lemonade was the first in that trilogy. If she were really a fan of the book or author, she would have found that one on her own.
1. JFK + Willa break up…. Right…. Okay in what universe is that ever gonna happen? Willa’s not a “warrior” if she breaks up with that man…. SICKENING. She’s letting her worries rule her AGAINNN
2. Jess and Willa. I have to laugh. Isn’t Tina in love with Jess?? Jess is a wet paper bag and only started liking Willa because she is famous. He’s a 16 year old junior tho so idk why does he like a 14 year old girl… CALL THE POLICE (first offense)
3. Speaking of Tina… her and Will… when he’s almost 18 and she’s 14… CALL THE POLICE (second offense)
4. I unironically love Will so much more than it thought I was going to
Whatever I know that JFK and Willa will get back together so I’m at peace. they take a 8 month hiatus before realizing that they are soulmates. I hate how JFK was gone for the whole last 2 books…. WHY DID COLLEEN MURTAGH PARATORE write him out….. SICKENING
+100 stars for the Percy Jackson reference
Edit: after I read Book 5 (Wish I Might) I said in my review I wished the series should just end because i felt something bad was going to happen and well. I was right!
book 6 feels like fanfiction when the author got bored of her already perfect story so she just went and messed everything up…. She took the only thing we didn’t care about (Willa leaving random books on benches) and made that the most important thing. So even tho she lost her friends and her brother and HER LOYAL BOYFRIEND it’s okay :) because…. Well because now random people can read books on a bench?? I’m sorry, I just don’t care. I finished this book 10 days ago and have been simmering and seething in the injustice ever since. I think book 6 is the worst in the series…… okay I’m done.

This book was so cute and just so much fun to read. I loved reading about Willa's adventures throughout her summer. I definitely did not realize this was a series, until I looked on goodreads. So I'm assuming that would mean you can read all the books out of order. After this one, I will definitely be checking out the other Willa books, as her story was just too much fun!
The plot was a lot of fun. Just Willa's every day life made me want to go to Cape Cod and check it out. I loved the family-esque feel of the town and with the relationships of the people who lived there. The romances in From Willa, With Love felt a bit rushed. They felt very I meet you, now I'm in love.
Willa was such a fun character. I loved her voice and thought she was just such a great person. Willa is a huge reader and I loved reading about all the different books she was reading, as I have read most of them myself. I also definitely want her pink sneakers. I really enjoyed the other characters as well, especially Will and Jess. I thought they both were super compassionate people, and I really hope they make appearances in the future.
From Will, With Love was filled with writing that contained beautiful descriptions. While most of these were wonderful, sometimes it felt like everything was being too spelled out for the reader with the writing.
I really enjoyed From Willa, With Love. It was the perfect read for a summer day. From the lovely writing to the interesting life at Bramblebriar, Willa's story will be sure to captivate your heart.
Cover Rating: A - I really like this cover - It is just too cute.
This book is about a girl named Willa who has lived on Cape Cod all her life. She has a boyfriend who is away at baseball camp for the summer and she has to go on without him until he gets back. During this time, a guy named Jess wants to ask her on a date to come see his band play. Willa is now torn between her long time boyfried Joey and Jess. Her family owns a very popular hotel where they basically plan weddings and she finds out that one of her family members, Mum, has cancer and her bestfriends mom has cancer. Willa doesn't have an easy life.
Willa is an outgoing, sort of a country girl in a way. She's not all into the makeup but she is into boys. She has a hard time making her own decisions. Will (Willa's step brother) is supposedly the "cutie" on Cape Cod. He gets a lot of attention from girls and he likes one of Willa's best friends. Jess is a tall, muscular, brown eyed and brown haired, a drummer, and he has liked Willa for 2 years.
I loved this book, I thought that it related to a lot of people and the things they go through and I couldn't stop reading it. I would recommend this book to girls from 7th to 11th grade probably because it isn't high vocabulary but it relates to girls 100 percent.
The book I read for my March book review was From Willa, With Love By: Coleen Murtagh Paratore. It's August and Willa Havisham has to spend her summer without her best friend Mariel or her boyfriend,JFK. Then she discovers that she has a new brother, Will and her annoying friends Tina and Ruby returning with her Mum to Cape Cod. The inn is running a wedding and Willa has to help plan alot of it but she has some upsetting news with her chef, Rosie is leaving the inn, and Willa is being split between being happy for her and being upset. Then she has a crush on a cute, drummer named Jessie and he has a crush on her too. My opinion on the book is I liked it. I didn't like that it was like a fluffy plot with a bit to much drama and side plots and storylines. I gave it a 3 stars out of 5 because they should off kept it more steady and it should of flew smoothly instead of having bumps. I would recommed it for ages 10 and up because it has alot of romance, dramatic and conflicts with friendships.
This is my favorite book!!! Willa is a teenager that lives in a small town and she works with her mom on weddings and she has such a talent! Willa's boyfriend is in Florida and they face a hard time being apart for the summer. Willa starts falling for another guy. But who? Whats going to happen? Read to find out!!! I love the way Coleen writes. I love all of her books. She is an amazing writer. She really gets into the book. I could feel the emotions that Willa was feeling. The way she worded the book made it easy to understand how Willa was feeling! This book is good for all ages!! Hope you read it!!!!
An unexpected gem I stumbled upon in my old boxes of books. Little did I know, it's the final installment of the Wedding Planner's Daughter series, which took me by surprise! I initially thought it was a standalone when I got it from the Scholastic website a decade ago.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Cape Cod, this book effortlessly transported me to a beautiful summer haven. The vivid descriptions painted a captivating picture, making me fall in love with the place and its enchanting atmosphere.
But beyond the scenic beauty, it was the heartfelt story of Willa and Jess that truly stole my heart. Their journey was a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with unexpected twists and poignant moments. Willa's strength and resilience in the face of her mother's illness resonated deeply with me. It served as a powerful reminder that life doesn't always unfold the way we anticipate, teaching me a valuable lesson in acceptance and courage.
I found myself unable to put the book down, just like I did years ago.
This concluding novel to the series did its justice on growing Willa into a new and improved young adult. However, it did not felt like the novel concluded all of the other characters. Indeed that this book is about Willa and not the rest of the Bramble community yet Willa invested most of her life into this town and its people, who also helped Willa in return when she needed the help. This book would be five stars if the other supporting characters were in a good spot in their lives and not just Willa. Maybe Coleen was approaching a more realistic ending that shows that not every one is going to have a happy ending and not everything is going to run and end smoothly. Even though the conclusion was not the best, I still enjoyed being a child again and reading a series that impacted my childhood greatly.

Finally the last book in the series! The first two books were great but the others? Not so much.
I know Willa is a teenager, but she's such a hypocrite and that bothers me. She's still insulting Lorna (who I'm sure is a perfectly nice girl) by making fun of her name, all because she dared to bring JFK a cake for his birthday. But the moment Jess talks to her, she's all gaga over him because he's soooo cute.
She scoffs at such behavior when Ruby & Tina engage in it (I still think they're horrible, but come on) but it's okay when Willa does it. She even decides to go out with Jess, though as friends. But again, if JFK did that, she'd flip out. The fact that she gets super offended at any female breathing in her boyfriend's direction but is attracted to other boys is annoying, to say the least. Poor JFK. He even got cheated on :/
Thank you Coleen Murtagh Paratore for introducing me to Willa and Cape Cod. I read each book in the Wedding Planner’s Daughter series with a full heart. I found a kindred spirit in Willa as I live on books and a great piece of candy. Many books listed on Willa’s Skinny Punch Pix book lists have graced my home library shelves and TBR list. While reading “from Willa, with Love” I ordered a used copy of The Golden Book on Writing by David Lambuth that is mentioned in this book. It arrived just as I finished reading “from Willa, with Love”Better yet there are notes written throughout the book. This of course made me think about Willa writing notes in the margins of her books. I took delight in thinking “this could have been Willa’s book”; one she sent out into the world from her personal library…planting a seed. Thank you Willa, with Love
A warm, shorter read from the life of Willa. She’s bright and kind, and inpsiring; loves her family and friends, and her Salty dog, alike, with an open heart. She’s such a sweetheart. Willa shows that no relationship or friendship is beyond repair, while keeping the “realness” of being a teenager in “Summer Love” in a special small and “secret” city. A perfect middle-grade, inspiring novelette. The ending ties everything together with a bow, and leaves readers thoughtful, and with a lasting impact. I loved Coleen’s writing, including unique character names, intentional prose, quotes, special references, and chapter titles, and the overall simplicity and positivity this book brings. “From Willa, With Love” is a book you could read over and over again, everyday for the good life advice found curled up in the pages.
OH MY GOSH. Out of all of the times where these books ended with a happily ever after they choose the last book in the series to leave it completley un-finished. I have way to many questions: does she really end up with JFK, what happens next with Mum's and Ruby's Mom's cancer, does Will come back, is Willa's family in a financial problem still, did she for real breakup with Jess, are Tina and Ruby her "bestfriends" now? You see, because it has that many blank spots I'm gonna need someone to give this an ending, and preferably one that DOESN'T END IN COMPLETE MYSTERY!
Well that was a fast read! Quickest book I finished this year! It was a good way to wrap up the series and see how Willa grew and matured. I know the second half of the series was more focused on Willa's life but it was nice to add in the wedding planning from the first half. It was great to see Willa navigate love, life, friendship and her family through her adventures in Cape Cod. Really made me want to visit there. I started this series almost a decade ago and I'm glad I finally was able to complete it! On to the next series!
I Love willa character much. I love the way other characters are described as well. Her lifestyle was too simple and her relationship with every one in that small down is inspiring to have healthy relation ship. Its a very fast read.
Oho, I love quotes on books as well. Beach, books, love, friendship, family, sentiments, business everything is part of Willas day to day life. In total, I enjoyed reading.
I love how Willa thinks about more than just her problems and actually tries to change the world by simply helping where she can in her town. In a lot of young adult novels you have characters that only care about their boyfriend, and don't have much character development. Changes the status que. Great book!
This is the first time i read a book that really relates to myself. The #books, the #beach and not to forget the #furbaby.
Review : The story reminds me so much of myself, the girl who loves #reading, loves to mingle and always there for a her friends, always make people feel welcomed. Of course it includes the #sadness and the lost of a loved one and how can that love be gained in other ways. Having feeling for the boy that played for band while going out with another guy. I literally just smiled reading this book reminding me of my teenage self. I love this book. Truly.
Willa is an inspiration to keep moving forward. Surrounded by a loving supportive family and friends always encouraging to follow her heart and gave her the independence to make her own decisions.
Favourite Quote: If you want to catch the sun☀️, you have to get to the shore early, before the sun rises out of the sea🌊. Then, right at the very moment the sun first appears, when its just a tiny #diamond on the #horizon, stare straight at it for a second and quickly close your eyes. At first there will be just white swirls in the darkness and then when they are clear, you will see that tiny diamond in your mind.

This was a really hard book to review for me. While I didn't hate the book, I didn't thrill in it either. I loved the reading concept and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I liked how the author had a character who seemed to have a brain in her head, though at times I wanted her to use it more. I liked the family feel to the book as well.
What didn't work for me was how young the book felt. I see this book geared more for the younger teens and the older teens becoming bored with it before the ending arrives. It was cutesy and nice, but nothing dramatic enough to really talk about. I don't know if this is the norm for this authors writing, but it moved at a slow pace and drag in quite a few places. Having never read any of her previous books, maybe I am missing key factors in the story, but it did feel like it could be read as a stand alone.
If you are a fan of the series, then by all means continue on with Willa's adventures. I am going to leave this series though for the younger teens.
