Devon's Revenge

Rate this book
Devon never wanted to be free. He never wanted to leave the safety of the harem. Forced out of the only home he’s ever known, he’s cold, hungry and…angry for the first time in his life. Revenge needs to be very sweet.

Faced with an impossible choice, Devon threw away his only chance of returning to his Master and the sheltered life of a pleasure slave. Now, abandoned and abused, Devon is struggling to find his way alone in a strange new world—Earth. Being a stray certainly isn’t easy, and replacing his Master is proving almost impossible. Then he meets Nate.

Nate isn’t looking for a mate. He certainly didn’t expect to find him in a club about to go down on another man! But something about Devon calls to him like no one ever has before. Now if he can just make sure Devon isn’t the most dangerous kind of shifter—the kind that would do anything to return to their master—perhaps they can work on exploring the mutual attraction that’s simmering between them, ready to explode.

Unfortunately, there are more challenges still ahead for Devon. More for Nate and Devon to face than learning secrets and earning trust with a new mate. There are enemies moving in. Some they never knew existed, and some that still haunt Devon’s nightmares. And they’re ready and waiting to take any chance of a happily even after away forever.

Jade was born in 2010 after a prolonged pregnancy and labour of over thirty-four years!

Yes, she is a pseudonym. A work of my fevered imagination, which never seems to grow tired of inventing new characters. And this one's a whopper. One that seems to have taken over my life to the point I'm no longer sure where she ends and I begin! Still, it seems to be working for us.

I’ve decided she’s about twenty-four. Enjoys long walks in the country, because she doesn’t have five kids and a husband to care for. Eats as much chocolate as she wants, because she never has to worry about putting on weight (must be all those long walks!). And can often be found planning her next whirl wind world tour or endlessly typing away (without any interruptions) on another hot and steamy erotic romance. It might be space pirates; it might be shifters or a lonely vampire with a thing for the girl next door, one thing’s for sure, she loves variety and can’t wait to meet the next characters destined to fall in love.

Okay, I don't normally do pics but I just have to for this one. Not only because this is (mostly) how I imagine Devon's cat to be but also because black cats are just my favorite ^_^

Plus, doesn't he just look so playful? :D

Onto the review!

I absolutely loved this book even more than Ethan's Freedom. There's just no way you can't fall in love with Devon especially with everything he goes through! And, well, I love broken characters ^_^

I loved Nate, too. He's sweet and strong and protective but above all his reaction to Devon makes him completely admirable in my eyes. Devon is a gentle soul. Someone that has always cared for others and only ever wanted to feel needed and wanted by someone but everyone always rejected him so he always felt like he was not good enough, abandoned, and lost. Until Nate came along . Now he feels like he's finally found himself. But even with how he wants to feel needed he's not weak, he's actually surprisingly strong. He changes, grows, throughout the book going from the neglected weakling people walked all over and used to the strong, confident cat who's loved and has a new purpose in life and is finally happy.

This book definitely has more action than the first in the series. While the first half of the story is all about getting to know Devon and Nate, which I absolutely loved because they have to be some of my favorite characters now, the second half is all about the suspense with one twist after another. I swear, if Bubbles didn't tease me so much about it I probably would have been blind-sided by one or two of them. Lol. We're introduced to new characters and learn a little bit more about the world Jade has created. I just wished we got to see more of some the other cat's from Ethan's Freedom; more of Ethan and also Rolf's brothers.

All in all, this was a fantastic book. This series keeps getting better and better and I'm eager to read the next in the series and see where Jade takes us. I just hope we get more of Nate and Devon, too! Definitely recommended!

I Loved this one even more than Ethan’s Freedom. It was great reading about Devon’s journey to get his HEA. There was also a few twists along the way one I knew was going to happen the other was a complete surprise to me and Devin. I want to put a spoiler but I am not going to yet maybe after other people do I will add it. I don’t really know what to say but I loved this and I am going to post a bunch of pictures and recommend this series to everyone

I loved this book! I loved finally getting to see Devon find true love and his true mate. Devon and Nate were so sweet together and Nate was just perfect for him.

I loved that Devon was finally able to stand up for himself and take control of his own life. And the twist at 64%...CRAZY!! I'm am also glad that

I'm really getting into this world Jade has created and can't wait to read the 3rd book in this series! Will be starting it in like 5 minutes.

I think some stories are what I refer to as heart stories. They are the stories that live inside us and have to be told. 'Devon's Revenge' is my heart story. As such it wasn't easy for me to write. Or perhaps more specifically it wasn't easy for me to publish. I fully appreciate that not everyone will love or even like this story. But it is what it is because this is the way it grew in my heart and for as long as I live I will be grateful for the opportunity to share it with others. I really hope you enjoy 'Devon's Revenge' if you decide to read it. Devon's journey was never destined to be an easy one, and is nowhere near over yet, but I'm very proud of him.

Whew, I finally managed to finish Devon's Revenge. I am so glad to be done with it! 1.5 stars, because I kinda sorta enjoyed the beginning. I had to skim a bit towards the end because it was all getting to be too much for me. Here's a quote that illustrates a lot of what I had to put up with:
Nate knew pleasure cats were incapable of getting or transmitting disease, so he could dispense with the condom. It was just as well, because Nate had the most overwhelming desire to thrust into the smaller cat and leave his cum buried deep inside. It was a primitive and demanding need—to mark Devon with his scent and his seed so that every cat would know this man was his. He didn’t think he would have been capable of the logical thought processes needed to remember safe sex, even if it had been an issue.
Let's parse that a moment, shall we? He didn’t think he would have been capable of the logical thought processes needed to remember safe sex... and yet, this paragraph began with Nate knew pleasure cats were incapable of getting or transmitting disease, so he could dispense with the condom. What is that, if not him thinking that which the end of the paragraph suggests him incapable of thinking, right after he just thought it? I don't think it's just the Codeine making my head spin today!

Solid 4 stars (still trying to decide if I can go to 5 stars)

This had such a slow start for me. I wasn't sure I liked Devon at all. I mean really. I think I put off reading this book because of the way the first book, Ethan's Freedom, ended with Devon. Devon redeemed himself for me and I like Nate, too.

I'm still a little confused about the world, but I feel better about everything after this book than I did after the first book. It's definitely enough to make me look for the next book in the series.

LMAO, MPREG.

I'm sorry, was that not very informative? Oh, all right then.

The story was well written, though maybe not well enough. I didn't find Devon's character very believable, maybe because I spent the first bit of his story (in the previous novel) bored. I have a rather short attention span and paying attention to more than the main characters was a bit much for me, I suppose.

Regardless, Devon's change from desperately needing his master to trying to become independent wasn't written believably for me. It was too sudden, maybe because we're fast-forwarded a month after Devon left his new "Master" to when he meets Nate.

There was also mpreg. Just sayin'.

After being introduced to Devon in “Ethan’s Freedom” and feeling bad for everything he experienced, I was so happy with the prospect of him having his own book so that he could be appreciated for himself and find love. And find love he did – with Nate!

Devon experienced a boatload of crap that he was trying to cope with when this story opens – losing his beloved twin, being on a strange planet with completely unfamiliar things, being raped, being beaten and abused, and living on the run as a stray. He was almost a broken man when he finally meets Nate and Nate steps in as Devon’s protector. They had their struggles at first because they made too many assumptions and hadn’t quite reached the level of unconditional trust, but once they got past a few misunderstandings, they were a strong and dynamic duo. Nate really helped Devon gain confidence and break out of his shell, and accepted him without question. Devon and Nate were perfect true mates!

This story had some very interesting twists and turns in the plot. I won’t go into any detail or spoilers, but suffice it to say I was pretty surprised with one particular element of the story. I’m really hoping the next book in the series (or a future one – hint, hint:) brings closure to this particular plot element as well as at least one other open item. At least I know Devon will be well cared for and loved – yay!!! Loved this second book in the Portals series!

Set in and around Sydney, Australia, this is the second book in the Portals series. Devon, believing himself abandoned by his twin brother Ethan, raped and abused by the Mages's hunter Rolf, finally realizes he needs to stand up for himself - but he soon finds it's not as easy as it looks, particularly when he doesn't have a home address nor identification. On his last legs, he stumbles into a bar, The Cat Club, where he meets Nate. He couldn't know that the club was in fact owned by
Earth's own cat shifters, and that Nate rescues escaped or abandoned Cat slaves. Nor could he know that all of Nate's protective instincts are aroused when he lays eyes upon Devon. Nate invites Devon to stay with him, and Devon, not knowing what it will cost him but resigned to accept whatever it may be, accepts.

As time passes and Devon feels more secure with Nate, their relationship also slowly develops, with both realizing that what they feel for each other is new to both of them. Nate also realizes that he'll have his work cut out for him, trying to keep Devon safe from all those who hunt him.

I think I liked this short story more than Ethan's story as it felt a little more real/possible to me. However, it was made clear that quite a few plot threads were raised but were not going to resolved within the novel, something I personally found frustrating - frustrating as I know I will need to pick up the next book if I want to learn more. Oh well...

Just notes:

Another beginning that seems appear to have any relevancy to the story.

Even more telling instead of showing in this story.

It's great that it's the little guy this time that wants to assert his independence but it's kind of weird. Their personalities completely switched.

Oh god seriously? He's pregnant?

Confused about what he did as a pleasure cat if he didn't know about the prostrate. Both cats had to come at the same time. (Did they have to have sex with each other?)

Description of technology to make babies convoluted and not explained very well.

"I would be touching them when...when we orgasmed, but never touched." Took me several tries to grasp what he was saying.

If they were twins, his brother should be one of these special things, too.

Why didn't his brother have a true mating if it's only about accepting each other completely and unconditionally?

Can't breed armies if gestation is 11 months and there are only two breeders. How big are the litters?

Cleared up loose ends like linking back to the prologue sort of (although how they got to they master is still a mystery) and had the brothers reunite.

Lots and lord of action and danger. I would have liked to have seen one of them actually really injured in the altercation but it was still good.

Good shifter story. 4.25 stars

In the second instalment to the Portals series the author takes us on the journey of Devon, a young catshifter lost on a strange world. having had everything he thought he knew and wanted torn away from him he's left wandering the streets with more anger and frustration than he knows what to do with.

Well crafted characters and great writing bring the story of his struggle to life in a heart warming tale that is still edgy and full of angst. Never falling into fluffy or twee, a host of bad guys keep everything balanced on a knife edge.

You've got to love the bad guy and Rolf and Vladimir keep up the pressure so that you never know quite how things will pan out.

The only downside for me is that the book finished too soon. I found myself reading slower towards the end because I didn't want to finish it.

Really, really can't wait for the next release in what is turning out to be a great series.

I loved, loved, loved this second book in the series. I was a little disappointed in the previous one which made this one even sweeter. Devon was so vulnerable, yet strong. He’d been second best to Ethan for all of his life in the harem and he just wanted to find somebody to love him, who he could love back. Ironically, that was what Ethan had been looking for and what he had left their world for, causing the rift between the twins when it led to Devon being abandoned by his master and raped by his would be protector. Devon deserved happiness more than a lot of characters I read about so I was so glad to see him get it. The only thing I couldn’t figure out though, was that Ethan didn’t seem to be looking for Devon after he ran away at the end of the previous book. Did he actually abandon his twin who was in a new, scary world to wander the streets alone?

I didn't know if I really liked Devon in the first story. He seemed so "don't rock my boat" and then when he ran from Ethan I was really angry even though he had been through so much.

I was surprised how well he managed, though he made some seriously wrong choices, when things went bad and he had a chance to return, he realized he liked being strong and independent... he liked himself.

When he found Nate he realized how lucky he was, but then he found out he was a Vess'al and what that meant. They know they want a family together.

A reunion with Ethan means his family is complete and with Nate, he has a home.

I loved Devon's Revenge and thought it was a fabulous continuation to the Portals series. Devon is a real sweetheart that has been through a lot in his life. I really liked seeing his character grow throughout the story from feeling weak, useless and used to finding his inner strength. Nate is the perfect mate for Devon, giving him time to heal and grow while protecting him as best he could. It was nice to see both characters had times when they felt vulnerable and not only Devon.

The twists and turns in the plot made Devon's Revenge an awesome read with plenty of action. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I finished Devon's Revenge in one night and I liked it much more than I thought I would. In the first book, Ethan's Freedom I didn't think Devon was a very nice person. Here he really does come full circle and grow into the man he should be. I cheered him on and really felt like he embraced his new destiny. Now there has to be one on The Hawk and Talan - or are they one and the same? Hmmm. I cannot wait!

Eh. It's just some more mindless alpha-male-roawr fun.

And you can already tell; next book's about Paul.

It's like product placement, except character placement...

And this is why you shouldn't try to write reviews at 3AM.

*snort-giggle
"Vess-als"...
Gee, I wonder what those could possibly be. I don't know, man. It seems kind of difficult to tell what the author's trying to imply here.

And oh, god. mpreg.

"His mate was associating with another male cat shifter."
I'd think sex is a liiiittle more than just "associating."

Eh. Whatever. It's pulp. What are you going to do, right?

I truly enjoyed this book, it's a great continuation of the series and a very good read.
Sometime in the middle it became a mpreg story which only added to the intensity of the events.
Devon is the one character who gets a lot of hard dangerous hardhips during his life. I felt for him and in the end HE was logical in this book.
It's not just about the main pair of characters, Devon and Nate and the pack. Something entirely more dangerous and complicated is going on in the story and readers get pretty big glimpses of what's happening.

I read this book because I was intrigued about the pregnancy thing. A pregnant boy! I really needed to read that.

Shape-shifters are not my cup of tea but I truly enjoyed this. Specially Rolf. Devon should have chosen him!. And even if I did not understand a thing about portals and mages, in part, because I did not know this actually was a second part *facepalm* I really enjoyed this and wished Devon and Nate a happily ever after. If you want to read this, be sure to check out the first part.

WARNING ......... MPREG MPREG MPREG MPREG MPREG

Devon's personal growth just wasn't believable because the author didn't fill in the gaps. We did not see when and how he changed his mindset in deciding to stay on Earth and not run back to his master wizard. And Devon's relationship with Nate ran the same way - lot's of distrust between the two and then instant love. Just a little too choppy for me. And then after the instant love, it fizzled out.

This is not a stand alone novel.

So this was sweet and somewhat straightforward. Yes, there were conflicts but the resolutions weren't terribly complicated. Technically, I should have found bits of this syrupy, but I didn't and Devon should have gotten on my nerves with his fight for independence, but he didn't. Instead, I found the characters endearing and sweet and I'll be moving on to Book 3 to see what happens.

Very good m/m paranormal romance about Ethan's cat shifter brother who's out on the streets, trying (not very successfully) to fend for himself and feeling vengeful toward Ethan for ruining their cushy, sheltered lives as pleasure slaves.

It was quite difficult to rate this one. I liked it a lot until it revealed what was happening to Devon's body and the cause of it. After that, the plot got sappy and directionless.
Although I loved the world and Devon's character.
