I am having a hard time saying that I liked this - The murder that the psychic leading lady Max 'sees' and works to solve is tied up with the victim's sensuality (which is all about power) but because there are sex scenes linked with the victim's murder and others that lead to the murderers, the smex in here is 'squicky' and I found Evil to the Max uncomfortable at times even though the story held my interest in a train wreck fascination sort of way.
This time around we still continue to see more of why Max is so messed up - her sensuality is every bit as unhealthy as the victim's - and I am almost getting a feeling that what she learns about the victim's issues in each story ends up being sort of a therapy for Max as she begins to face how screwed up her past has made her - denial has been her modus operandi. Even as I am torn about continuing the series, I am dying to know what Witt has in him that he thinks only someone who is messed up can accept.
I actually enjoyed the storyline, again great development within the characters. I really like Witt he has something very likeable. But Max is not sure why she is so moved by him. Again fantastic plots with twist, I really like this series and style.
Loved this book. I especially enjoy the character progression between Max and Witt. Max is no stranger to sex and one night stands but she is reserved with Witt. Her fear and confusion of how he makes her feel makes the book so much better. Soapy books today have the main characters hopping into bed and declaring undying love within the first chapter or two. Getting into book two and wondering whether Witt will even get a first kiss just ups the excitement of what it will be like if it happens. This book also suggests that Witt may have some secrets he's afraid to share. And to think when I started book 1 that it might not be worth it to read more. How wrong I was. Downloading Desperate to the Max now. I have to know what happens next.
Really though? Ok ok ok I get it Max has some serious issues but for the love of god can the woman please start dealing with them so that her and the Detective can get things started.
Another thing a tad bit annoyed that everything is from Max perspective, I would love to get some insight on the detective and what he thinks of Max sheesh. I mean I know he wants her, but I would love to hear his reactions to some of the things she does from his perspective and not just her discribing it.
I really hope the next book picks up with their relationship, if she doesnt want him Ill take him lol
LOVE this series! just enough 'other' to make it interesting, but the story-line moves along just fine with and without it.
imperfect heroine with a touch of psychic, her back story is heart breaking but she's got enough issues that sympathy isn't the strongest vibe as a reader.
I carried this book everywhere with me from the moment I started it until I finished. Yes, that means I couldn't...or wouldn't put it down. Sexy. Engaging plot. Excellently dysfunctional lead character. And one heck of a mystery unfolds. It's even better than book 1.
I loved this series. The sex with the ghost husband was a bit hard to swallow (no pun intended) at first but becomes so much a part of the heroines flawed character. Loved Loved Loved it. More please!
Wow this series just keeps getting better with each book if you haven't meet Max, Cameron & Witt you need to read book one and then the rest I am so reading book 3 now I can't wait.
I'm really liking this series. Max is so messed up (understandable with her background) and not always very likeable, but she's also one of the more interesting book characters I've come across.
