I read a lot of management and leadership books. This was an excellent book. With a staff of 35 more than 75% women, my workplace is a hotbed for drama. I read the book, hoping to come up with an idea or two to minimize all the drama. In this book, I found myself making an extensive to-do-list because I found so many ways, my senior staff and I were doing things wrong and things we could do better, much better. I found ideas to improve my management skills and communicate better with my staff. I couldnt put it down, as so many things in this book rang true with my organization, and I felt this book giving me a light at the end of the tunnel. I finished the book one weekend and Immediately ordered it for my senior managers and changed course of the way were doing business.
If your organization is full of drama, back-stabbing, gossip and rumors, this is an excellent book to help you refocus your efforts and get your organization of drama queens back on track, I highly recommend this book, if you are worn out, burnt out and ready to throw your hands up in the air, after all the gossip and drama has worn you down.
I have even found some of the techniques useful at home with my three sons.

February 24, 2011Great, great books. It was a total eye-opener.
I would highly recommend it if you even just suspect you have drama in your workplace.
Come on, be fair... Who doesn't?

I can totally see how this book will be useful at work and home. Surprisingly good. I actually want to own this now that I've read the library's copy.

Worth reading to get insights for daily issues. Might give benefit for each individual and managers

This is not the book you're looking for. To be clear, if I had a position in a company where I could hire a consulting firm to help improve culture, I would skip the book and hire Marlene Chism. If you are keen to do some introspection on how you might be feeding into the problems in your workplace, maybe give the book a listen and get yourself a good therapist.
I do like and use a lot of the methodologies Marlene brings up in her book, learned from the same source material she references. I just have serious personal concerns about the way some of the information is presented; especially the information on Karpman's Drama Triangle. I suspect in person, these concerns would be eradicated.

The thing that I liked most about this book was twofold: (1) that the author didn't shy away from telling the reader that the drama may be his/her own and (2) that there are good, positive ways to be direct with your team about improvement.

It got me thinking about my behavior and thought patterns. It’s definitely worth a read and there are some good strategies in it.
It also helped me understand the people around me a little better.

Good tips and tricks, but a slow read overall.

I’ve found that it’s very similar to From conflict to courage but just as insightful. Great author.

Everyone I’ve mentioned this title to, loves it!
Stop Workplace DramaI mean who wants all the drama?
Like many catch phrases and cliché’s, not everyone has the same definition of drama. Chism defines drama rather globally as: “any obstacle to your peace and prosperity.”
While I was interested in the book’s title and have talked to the author on the phone, I didn’t really know what to expect. What I found was a book with an eight-step process for stopping workplace drama. Each step is described in each chapter.

Excellent book for anyone in the working world. Don't make the mistake of thinking this book is just for supervisors. I identified many things I am guilty of and am working to change them. Lots of good information and solutions as well. I would recommend this to those in college as well so that they can develop a good foundation of skills before entering their career.

This book felt poorly organized and offered few concrete behaviors to meet the goal suggested by the title. The anecdotes were interesting, but I never got the feeling that anyone's problems were actually solved.

Started off slow for me, but later chapters resonates with my various life and work roles.
