Personal Review: This book is so fun! I think kids would love the stories of Kylie Jean and all of her different adventures. The characters are so unique compared to other kids books. The story is about how she wants to become a queen at her summer festival. It takes place on a farm and all of the characters say things like "y'all", which I think is fun for kids and they would love to read! There are little pictures to help guide the story along, and it is just a really cute story!

Kylie Jean Hits The Spot! 👍
WOW!!! This might be one of my favorite Kylie Jean books!!!! I would recommend this book to someone who likes queens and blueberries! I would also recommend this book to someone who likes competitions, sparkly, queen tiaras and working hard. One of the reasons I gave this book a five star rating is because I ❤ blueberries! Another reason is Kylie Jean is funny, sweet, and, beautiful. The lesson I learned from this story was that if you work hard on something you can do it!!😁

This book is a great pick for those readers transitioning from easy readers like Fancy Nancy to chapter books such as Just Grace or Judy Moody. The story is not too complex and the language stays within the early fluency range. As for the plot as an adult. Meh. It is a cute book for young girls and very few boys.

This is the second chapter book in this series that my 3 year old daughter has chosen to have read aloud. She really likes the characters and I like how hard Kylie Jean works to fulfill her dreams. She lays out her plan step by step and figures out (simply) how to make it happen. It was a good book for goal setting. It's a very simple story that has a happy ending.

Kylie Jean is an eponymously named new chapter book series written by Marci Peschke with illustrations by Tuesday Mourning. it is about a spunky and charming little Texan girl, her family, friends and the other people in her life including Ugly Brother, the faithful pet bulldog.
Rodeo Queen
* it is spring time and all's right with the world. the rodeo is coming to the small town of Jacksonville, Texas and Kylie Jean wants to be Rodeo Queen. if she expects to get the title, she must learn some rodeo lessons like barrel-racing.
Blueberry Queen
* summer arrives and the blueberries are ripe for picking. everyone is looking forward to the Blueberry Festival especially Kylie Jean because every year one girl is chosen Blueberry Queen and she would just love to have that tiara on her head.
Drama Queen
* summer comes to an end and Kylie Jean heads back to school. she is now in second grade. her whole class gets ready for a production of Alice in Wonderland and she hopes to play the Queen of Hearts but the new girl Paula Dupree might just steal it from her.
Hoop Queen
* during fall, Kylie Jean catches basketball fever. she has to gather pledges and make lots of baskets at the Free Throw Tournament in order to be the year's Hoop Queen. but first she must learn how to play the game.
i surprised myself when i realized that i could still enjoy books aimed at readers aged 6 to 9. perhaps because it was also around that time that i began my love affair with the written word. i loved reading the series and the books do not have to be read in any particular order. each can stand alone. i would definitely recommend them for their universal appeal.
family-oriented values, obedience, friendship, resourcefulness, cooperation, generosity, humor and insight are just some of the themes found in the books. there are also recipes and fun stuff to do at the end of each one. together, parents and their children will certainly have a lot to look forward to when the series debuts in January 2011.

Blueberry Queen, written by Marci Peschke and illustrated by Tuesday Mourning, is one of four books released in January 2011 to mark the beginning of the new Kylie Jean chapter book series. Like other chapter book heroines such as Junie B. Jones, Judy Moody, Ramona Quimby, Ruby Lu, and Clementine, Kylie Jean has a bright and spunky voice, and in her quest to become a real, live beauty queen, she encounters many of the problems and challenges girls face as they start to grow up. I was fortunate enough to receive a digital Advanced Reading Copy of this book from Capstone, via NetGalley.
While I am not a huge fan of little girls in beauty pageants (especially after seeing shows like Toddlers & Tiaras on TV), I could appreciate this book. Kylie Jean wants to be crowned the queen of her Texas town’s Blueberry Festival, but it’s not something that can just happen for her overnight. Rather, she has to work hard to find a sponsor who can pay the entrance fee, and she has to fill out an application and write an essay. In order to make her dream come true, she must also rely on assistance from both sets of grandparents and from her teenage cousin, Lilly, who is a cheerleader. And though Kylie is definitely a girly girl who likes to dress up, she doesn’t hesitate to paint her own signs (with the help of a band of enthusiastic girlfriends), and she’s not at all afraid of a little dirt or a little hard work (as evidenced by the overalls and boots she’s wearing on the adorable cover of this book.) I also absolutely loved her voice - her Texas roots came through loud and clear, and reading this book felt like sitting down and having a chat with a spirited little girl.
Personally, I didn’t feel as though this story was as strong or engrossing as a lot of other popular chapter book series I have read, but it does cover new ground, and even though I felt rushed through some of the story, I enjoyed reading it, and felt no desire to put it down, or move on to something else. I think Kylie Jean will have wide appeal to little girls who dream of being beauty queens themselves, and without putting a grim face on it, this book did focus on the hard work and dedication required to participate in pageants, so it was a realistic take on the experience. I also love that Kylie Jean is based on the author’s own niece - no wonder she’s such a realistic little girl!
Overall, definitely a fun early chapter book. If you like this one, also be sure to check out Rodeo Queen, Drama Queen, and Hoop Queen, also starring Kylie Jean.

Blueberry Queen is one light reading for middle grade. It did not take an hour to finish its 114 pages. There are also illustrations inside the book. It makes the readers easier to get the pictures for everything that happen in every chapter.
In the beginning, we are introduced to Kyle Jean who lives in Texas with her big family. Kyle is a little girl who wants to be a beauty queen. She has knitted that dream since she can remember or in her words, since she was a bitty baby. She practices all the time to be the one.Then, the Annual Blueberry Festival is coming. Kyle Jean thinks this is a big chance for her to make her dream come true.
For me, Kyle was a cute little girl. She was self-motivated girl. I liked to see her enthusiasm. She knew that all the steps to be the beauty queen were not easy. But she never gave up.
The reactions from all family and people around her were remarkable . They were amazing. Just like me they thought it was funny but they still encourage Kyle to fulfill her dream. Her mother become the most adorable character. I loved when she kept remind her with her Pretty is as pretty does sentences.
However there is not any conflict that troubled her, this book is still an enjoyable reading. The message inside is wonderful. I would recommend this book to all young readers.

I've been attempting to purchase more girl focused books for my library and the Kylie Jean series came up on a search. So far, these have been a hit in the library and I wanted to read one just to get an idea what it's about. Kylie Jean is a little girl who wants more than anything to be a pageant queen. In this book, the town is having a blueberry festival. Kylie decides to stealthily plan her entry to become the town's next blueberry queen and works hard to complete all the necessary requirements to enter into the competition.
At first, the book felt very superficial. Kylie Jean goes into a long explanation of what makes her pretty, but throughout the book she follows her mother's advice "pretty is as pretty does, which means that being pretty on the outside doesn't mean anything if you aren't pretty on the inside. Kylie Jean uses her wits and also relies on her family to help accomplish her goals. Kylie Jean turns out to be a very sweet story, which I will definitely recommend to my readers.

The Kylie Jean Series is set in a small Texas town called Jacksonville. In most small towns everyone knows everybody and Jacksonville is no different. Kylie is a typical girlly girl. The color pink is her favorite color, she loves anything that sparkles and she dreams of one day, becoming a beauty queen (or some sort of queen). In "Kylie Jean Blueberry Queen", Kylie sets her sights on becoming the next Blueberry Queen at the town Blueberry Festival. When it is time for the pageant to begin, Kylie gets there and, to her surprise, all of the contestants are much older. All the other contestants, in Kylies words, "look like movie stars". Kylie is very worried that she may have to wait to be the Blueberry Queen until the judge announces that this year they will crown a "Little Miss Blueberry Queen". This is a great Kylie Jean book and one you don't want to miss reading!

Blueberry Queen is one of the books about Kylie Jean, a young girl who aspires to be a beauty queen. Kylie Jean goes to Nanny’s and Pa’s farm with her family. They go there to help Nanny and Pa pick blueberries. Kylie decides she is going to try to become Blueberry Queen during the Blueberry Festival. With the help of family and friends, Kylie Jean tries to accomplish the requirements to enter the competition to become Blueberry Queen. Will Kylie Jean get the requirements done and become Blueberry Queen?
I loved all the illustrations. I think it is great that all of the Kylie Jean books have a glossary, recipe, and questions for children.

Kylie Jean Carter is 12, Southern and completely lovable! She dreams of being a Beauty at the Blueberry Festival in her Texas hometown, but can she comport herself as a queen should if and when she loses...and can she still win? Kylie is already a winner, and her pug dog Ugly Brother is right up there with Stinker as among the top ten lovable pooches in kids lit today! Shine on, you crazy diamond!

I read this with my daughter when she was five. What a fun read-aloud for little ones. I especially liked talking with a Texas accent whenever I read this book. When I first saw these books, I wasn't sure I wanted to read about a girl who's main ambition in life is to be a beauty queen, but after reading them, I saw that Kylie Jean has a lot more going for her than that. She's considerate, kind and just plain sweet.

I have read all the Kylie Jean books to my daughter, and this one was my favorite. I love that Kylie Jean's character is very polite and thoughtful, and she asks for help from her family. I hope there are more added to this series.

This was a miss. I read it aloud to my daughter, who chose this as she likes blueberries, but neither of us liked the "beauty queen" stuff and that's what this was all about. Not a win in my house.
