I love these books. Read them so many times! This one isn't about Arn and it's not as lovely, but more historical and really a must-read if you liked the triology.

Taking into account that I have yet to read Stieg Larsson's "Millenium', as of now I brand Guillou my favourite Scandinavian auhtor and one of my all-time favourite authors.
I LOVED every bit, every page of Arn's trilogy and I'm glad to say that this forth novel lived well beyond my expectations.
I strongly reccomend all 4 books, read chronologically, to anybody who loves historical novels. You won't be disappoined!

It's better than expected BUT not so good as previous books. This isn't part of trilogy but it's some kind of spinoff. Worth of reading, definitely. Read in order to keep all ****sson in mind. ;)

If you have read the books about Arn, this one is a must as well. I love the style of the author, and I cannot tell you how happy I am with the translation - it makes the pleasure of reading this book even bigger. A slight difference from the other three books is that this one is about a real person that was part of the Scandinavian history - wow! For me these books are like a fairy tale about Scandinavia, with a piece of actual history. Bare in mind that main point in them is Christianization t ...more

Lopuksi kaikki tapahtumat on ahdistettu kirjan viimeiseen viidennekseen.

Päähenkilönä tarinassa on Arnin lapsenlapsi, Birger Jarli.

Si us agrada la literatura històrica amb apunts marcials, us encantarà.

Same as books 1 and 3. I believe the characters in this book have more historical sources about them than the (mostly fictional) ones in the previous books, but don't know enough Swedish history to be sure. Still - clans and swords. Comfort. Yeah.

Recommends it for: anyone with the slightest interest in history
Great book - though not as great as the three books prior to this one. It does work on it's own premises though, so theoreticly you don't have to have read the three first books in the series. I would, however, recommend to do so.

Best part of the book might be that it's the last in the series. I still like the historic description, but the story line really doesn't keep up through this volume.
