The Theatre of Meyerhold: Revolution and the Modern Stage

A revision of a 1979 volume The Theatre of Meyerhold , providing a comprehensive appraisal of this reknowned Russian director who greatly influenced Western theatre. Greater attention is paid to his personal life, and the cultural and political circumstances of the period, than in the former edition. Also examined are the director's last days before his execution on trumped-up charges of treason and espionage. Fascinating reading for anyone interested in the theater. The best biography of Meyerhold I’ve read so far, and I think I’ve read all that are in English and Spanish.
