Elmo's bringing a present to Oscar. But the mysterious wrapped gift has a curious effect--it's making Elmo sneeze! And every time Elmo sneezes, something funny happens. Toddlers will love following along when Elmo's sneezes cause laundry to fall off its line and much more in this Early Step into Reading™ story.
This is a book we have to read about 15 times a day. Addison loves to tell me the characters and saying, "Achoo." When she can't find this book (because I have to have break from it sometimes), she walks around saying, "Achoo, Achoo, Achoo." It is so pitiful, I have to bring it out of hiding.
Elmo has a present. What is it ? No one knows. He is taking it to Oscar. It tickles Elmo's nose. "Achoo!" Elmo sneezes. Down blow all the clothes. Bert is stacking cans. He stackes neat and tall. "Achoo!" Elmo sneezes. All the soup cans fall. Elmo sees a person in the Barber's chair. "Achoo!"Elmo sneezes. Down falls all the hair. "Look at what we built!" the happy monsters call. "Achoo!"Elmo sneezes. Down falls the wall. Here comes a parade. The circus is in town. "Achoo!" Elmo sneezes. The clowns all tumble down. Elmo visits Oscar to give the grouch his gift. "A stinkweed plant!" says Osca,"The best I ever sniffed!" Oscar finds his hanky , and what does he do? Oscar gins a grouchy grin. And then he says "Achoo!"
Elmo is taking a gift to Oscar the Grouch. No one knows what it is, but it tickles Elmo’s nose. His sneezes knock down the laundry on the clothesline, Bert’s soup cans, the barber shop customer’s hair, the monsters’ wall, and the circus parade clowns. What is Elmo’s gift for Oscar?

This is another absolute favorite in our house. Our little loves when oscar the grouch sneezes LOUDLY once he receives his wonderful stinkweed plant! What a perfect give for a grouch. The library has a version of this book that is also in spanish and I liked throwing in some spanish words too.

My son is obsessed with Elmo, and his older sister is a fan, too! This story is cute! I’ve read it multiple times to my daughter, and now to my son. They both enjoy it and it makes them laugh.
This is such a fun book, if you put a lot of emphasis into the sneezing! Great for young and older kids.
Elmo brings a present to a friend, and mysteriously sneezes along the way, causing damage to everyone he comes across.
The synopsis isn’t that great, I’ll admit, but the fun my toddler had with the repetition of sneezing was worth it. We read this book three times in a row, with my 3.5 year old getting more and more excited with each read. We would have read a few more times, but, by the third read, my kid’s sneezes were becoming so melodramatic that they ended up with a nosebleed. I’d still call it a win.
The only real frustration is with the ebook. The pictures and text don’t match, so I would read about Bernie stacking towers, then flip the page to show it. On the same page, I’d read about the sneeze knocking it down, then flip to show the image, etc.
My daughter sat through this twice in a row without trying to turn the pages before I'd finished each rhyme. The illustrations are so much fun to look at, filling each page with colour, and the rhymes are short and simple and funny. The second time reading it, she started to talk about what was happening on each page, anticipating the rhyme. So I think this is a book that is easily comprehensible for two-year-olds as well. And it was fun for me to read.
This was an okay book, the meaning was there but just didn't get fully through in the story. BUT Elmo wants to surprise a friend regardless of what he's doing is actually making him sick. But he cares more about his friend than his temporary discomfort. This is a level 1 book, and has repetitive words. So a beginning reader once they got some of the words down could read this by themselves and be proud.
River liked it mostly because of familiarity of the characters and the theatrical way I sneezed. Not much to this book content, but pictures are nice. As long as it is a loved learning tool, I'll make it work and use it to build on.
