Genre: Picture Book
Audience: Ages 4-8
Topic: Starting Kindergarten
Theme: Being confident in who you are, the importance of making new friends
Reading Level: Transitional Readers
Curricular Uses: Read Aloud, Independent Reading
Literary Elements: Rhyme, repetition, alliteration, dialogue
Illustrations: Cute, colorful illustrations support the text for readers.
Additional Comments: This is a great book to read to children to calm their fears about starting school. There are also some useful elements that could be discussed such as the alliteration with Barnaby and Bailey's names, as well as the rhyme at the beginning of the story. This is a very cute story that I would recommend reading at the beginning of kindergarten or before children go to kindergarten. Even though the topic is targeted at children starting kindergarten, I still think that students in 1st and 2nd grade would enjoy reading this book during independent reading times.
