Froggy's mother knows that everyone's nervous on the first day of school. "Not me!" says Froggy, and together they leapfrog to the bus stop -- flop flop flop. Froggy's exuberant antics, complete with sound effects, will delight his many fans and reassure them that school can be fun."This is a great read-aloud with sounds and words that encourage active participation....A charming story to calm those pre-school jitters." -- School Library JournalJonathan London is the author of many books for children, including I See the Moon and the Moon Sees Me, Like Butter on Pancakes and four other books about Froggy.
Jonathan London is the author of several celebrated children's books. His commitment to honoring the wonders of the natural world has been lauded by readers and critics alike. He is the author of more than 70 children's books, many of which are about nature. He's also the author of the popular Froggy series. He lives in Graton, California with his wife and two sons.
I like how the book starts out with The Dream. You know the one. Where school has started and you're running late and you're in your underwear....yeah. Traumatized yet? It's THAT dream, and something I think just about every kid can relate to, especially that nervous child starting out to school for the first time.
I'm not a real fan of Froggy though. He's got issues with sitting still and comes off more than a little ADHD. I didn't like how he got the class into an uproar and the principal joined in the fun because it seems to me that a child reading it might get a little different idea of a principal than what the reality is. Not too many will jump in and play in that kind of situation. (Not that principals don't play - but this situation feels 'off' for that.)
So three stars is the best I can do. Maybe some of the other books will endear Froggy more to me...?
Summary- It's Froggy's first day if school, and he has a funny dream before going to school. When he's there, he experiences what school is like. He goes home and tells his parents all about it.
Review- This is an interesting book. It's very simplistic in art style, which I love. I also enjoy the plot, but not the way it was executed. They kind of glossed over some things but that's OK. I recommend it to its intended audience.
Aimed at kindergarten kids, but the preschool children ask for this on repeat. I may have read it ten times this week in the cozy corner. I agree with the other reviewers-- it tackles school anxiety head on and with humor. Not sure why I do not enjoy this series more, but the kids really do.
This would be a good book to read to younger students on their first day of school. In the book its about froggy being nervous for her first day but then everything turns out fine. This is a good lesson for kids not to be nervous because it will turn out ok and possibly be fun too.
This is a very cute book about the first day of school for kids. I think this would be a great book to read in my classroom, because the kids can relate to it so much. Each and everyone of them has experienced a first day of school, and they may have been nervous just like Froggy. I think the illustrations are very good in this book as well.
This is the book that introduced me to the Froggy series, when I was teaching second grade. I had frog-themed decorations in my classroom, so *of course* I needed some frog stories as well. Little did I know how well my students (and I !) would come to love this goofy little green guy. Abundant humor, some funny repetitive text, and problems to which children can relate, all make for joyous trips to the world of Froggy. Each book in this series adds a new adventure to befuddle Froggy, but he handles every challenge with help from friends and family.
I particularly liked that, although Froggy often makes mistakes, he does not deliberately misbehave (unlike many tv characters in this generation's children's programming). He tries his best to fix mistakes and solve problems. Many of my students came from less-than-ideal family situations, and they were always reassured when Froggy's parents would 'gently' chastise him but also help him.
This is a really great series for younger children (4 to 7). I also used the Froggy books when teaching Kindergarten, and read them with my son when he was 5-7. In my opinion, the silliness makes the Froggy books better than the comparable Franklin or Arnold series.
I started using this story this year with my Kindergarten classes. They get a big kick out of chanting along with the "flop, flop, flop" and Froggy's underwear adventure (he dreams he goes to school in his underwear). After reading this one, I'm able to throw in some fiction/non-fiction talk by asking them if real frogs wear hats and carry lunchboxes and if that means that it might be "made up". It's fun and I think they can relate pretty well to Froggy.
This is a series of books about Froggy. It is Froggy's first day of school and unlike most books about "first days of school," Froggy is actually very excited about going to school, but just like every child, Froggy has a huge problem with sitting still and paying attention. This is a great book to read to children at the beginning of the school year so that children can understand and know about distractions in school and how to overcome them.
Froggy Goes To School is a book that every teacher should have to share with their new class, the first week of there school year. Also it would be a great book for parents to read to their children before starting school. This can help to eliminate anxiety and show them the positives of meeting their new teacher, principal, and classmates. Appropriate for children ages 4-8.
Book Review: Froggy Goes to School By: Jonathan London, Frank Remkiewicz (illustrator)
I just finished reading Froggy Goes To School. This book is considered to be a great first day of school book. The book was written by: Jonathan London and the amazing illustrators were done by Frank Remkiewicz. This book to me would be best for elementary age children. This book isn’t just good for the first day of school, but whenever you feel nervous about doing something new, always reminds you others are nervous too.
Summary: This story is about a young frog; his name is Froggy. In the start of the book Froggy is dreaming about his first day of school, he is dreaming he is going to school with no pants. Then all of a sudden he is being waking up by his dad, it was just a dream. In the morning you could tell Froggy was nervous his mother asked if he was, but Froggy denied the fact he was. The mother tells Froggy everyone is nervous and its okay to be nervous, but Froggy continue to deny it. As the book continues on it shows more signs that Froggy is nervous by making a few mistakes along the way. His teacher helps guide him with the mistakes and teach him some rules of school and by the end of the day Foggy is leading his friends. Also Froggy taught the principle something new too, he had a great first day and learns some important things that he can share with his parents. Opinion: Overall in my own opinion I would use this book in a classroom in elementary age children. I really enjoy this books, I would use it mostly on the first day. This book could also just be used anytime when learning something new. The message to me show that we all make mistakes and we are all become nervous when trying something new. During the book it shows we are not alone that everyone is with us guiding and helping us when we make mistakes. It also shows us how we can teacher other people new things too, not just friends our age but adults also.

Froggy goes to School is a book about froggy's very first day of school. He keeps saying he is not nervous, but as the book continues there are more and more signs that he gives that show he is. However, after his first day at school he loves it and can't wait to go back again. The illustrations in this book suit the story narrative well and help it move along. The text also goes with the book become shaky when something zings and long when his tongue snaps for a fly. I rate this book a five. Everything from the colorful use of words, to the images and the way the text is written on the page is interesting about this book. When I was younger I read it numerous times. I also think the content of the book is good to read to young children going to school for the first time to calm there nerves.
It is about a frog name Froggy and he woke up one morning and it was his first day of school and his mom asked him if he was nervous and he said that he was not. She said everyone has to nervous on the first day of school so they went to the bus stop together. Then off to school he went. But then when he got to school there was a point that he was nervous. So then after the nervous went away he was all good and off home he went.
What I would do for this book is maybe read it on the first day of school. To tell the kids that It is not scary and you don't need to be nervous. But then it also tells you that you can be nervous even though you don't think that you are nervous.
Intended Audience This book is suitable for children who are the ages of 3 and up.
Key themes This book touches on how Froggy is anxious about his first day of school and he is very nervous because he does not know anyone, and he is also excited to make new friends.
Why I chose this book for my library. I chose this book for my library because it talks about how on the first day of school anxiety and nervousness take over and people become more anxious especially when they are new. I would read this to my future students because they can relate to how on their first day of school, they are very anxious.
This is a cute story about Froggy and his first day of school. He goes to sleep the night before school starts and he begins having dreams about his first day. He dreams that he shows up to school in his underwear. The whole story talks about how he prepares for school and makes it through his first day of school and plays leap frog all the way home.
For a lesson, you can have your students create a frog using their hand print and write about their favorite part of their first day of school or they can choose to write a different version of Froggy's first day.
In Froggy Goes to School Froggy is very nervous and excited for his first day of school. He seems to do all the wrong things without meaning to. Froggy breaking the rules shows your child what not to do and what will be required for him/her when entering a classroom. This story may also help us as parents to expect our kids to need a little time to get used to all that is asked of them to do. (also mentions that teachers and principals are actually nice, even if they look like giant adults)
“Froggy Goes To School,” by Jonathan London is a book about a young frog named Froggy and the struggles he goes through on his first day of school. I love this book. I have read it many times when I was little, because my mom would read it to me the night before the first day of school. As a teacher, I would use this book as a kind of ice breaker. The book is a funny and cute story that would make students not feel as nervous. I want them to know that everyone is nervous on the first day of school. It will set the tone for the upcoming school year.
I really do not care for Froggy. My kid, though, LOVES this series. I hate the rhythmic onomatopeias. I HATE THEM. STOP MAKING ME SAY FLOP FLOP FLOP AND ZIP ZOOP ZUT.
In this one, Froggy first has the classic, Freudian nightmare of "going to school in your underwear". Then - poof! - he wakes up and it's time to actually go to school. And then, as Wanda Maximoff would say, the nightmare begins. Just kidding just kidding, it's fine. Obviously.
My kid does NOT get the "it was all a dream!" sequence.
Story of Froggy, an eager and sometimes forgetful frog, as he embarks on his first day of school, highlighting themes of enthusiasm, overcoming challenges, and the excitement of new experiences. In the classroom, "Froggy Goes to School" can be used to help young students transition to the school environment and understand the feelings associated with starting school. Teachers can also organize activities that allow students to share their own thoughts and feelings about starting school and create art or stories about their experiences.
Froggy Goes to School by Jonathan London is about Froggy who goes to his first day of Kindergarten and Froggy is nervous. This book is perfect for the first day of Kindergarten and the kids can relate to him. Froggy had a dream about school and what it was going to be like and he was nervous. Until he actually had his first day and everything turned out to be good. The book has a good lesson in telling now to be nervous or scared of something new.
I really liked how the beginning of this book started off with Froggys dream because it can really get the readers thinking and making predictions. I thought it would also be a good first day of school read to get children thinking about how good their first day could be. While it is a good introduction to the first of the school year, it is also very funny and can be a great starter/happy addition.
Genre: modern fantasy fiction Grade Range: kindergarten-2nd Personal Review: I remember reading these books as a kid! When I saw them in the library I had to get one. Froggy is such a cute and relatable character for the kids, and there is so much that they can learn! With the pictures and sound effects, Froggy keeps all of the kids engaged and giggling throughout the whole story. The illustrations really bring the character to life!
"Froggy Goes to School" is a delightful children's book that follows the adventures of Froggy, a young frog who is nervous about starting school for the first time. The book is filled with humor and heartwarming moments as Froggy gets into all kinds of mishaps, from forgetting his lunch to getting his shoelaces tangled. The simple and repetitive text, along with Frank Remkiewicz's colorful and expressive illustrations, make it a great choice for beginning readers.
Such a fun and bright, colorful book for children young and old to enjoy. The book begins with a funny dream Froggy is having about his first day of school and then goes through Froggy's first day of school adventures. Children will find great humor in this story and will want to read it again and again.
I really enjoy the Froggy books. I love going to school, so I already knew I would like this book just based on the title. This is the story about Froggy's first day of school. Many children can read this book and relate to it. As a future teacher, I would read this book on the first day of school.
Froggy Goes to School is an adorable children's book. It is a great starter book for children who are about to attend school for the first time. The book includes a funny and cheerful story about a frog attending school for the first time. Froggy makes a lot of mistakes but it turns out he was dreaming which makes it even cuter. I recommend this book!
This would be a good book to read before a students first day of school, so that they know everyone gets a little nervous sometimes and that its okay to be nervous but it will all be okay. My mom used to read me this book before every new year of school, and I think it always helped me make friends in the new classroom.
