Good News!

This book helped clarify the misconceptions I had about the Catholic Church. It’s a beneficial read for anyone wanting to know more about how the church universal began.

And I also say unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. –Jesus to St. Peter
Wow!!! This is the foundation of the Catholic Church and what we Catholics interpret as the foundation of the Papacy. The largest religion in the world is Christianity, and the largest Christian Church is the Catholic Church. For centuries after Christ, every Christian was Catholic, until the East-West Schism and later the Protestant Reformation. The English royals split off the Anglican Church for political reasons. I learned that the infallibility of the Pope has only been used once for special recognition the Virgin Mary. Other tough doctrines about no birth control or all male, celibate clergy and the like could potentially be modified. The Catholic Church fully recognizes its many failings throughout history, although the Catholic Church has contributed mightily to a much better world – examples include world-wide evangelism, social services and justice for the sick and poor, and battle against slavery and communism. A refresher in Catholicism is humbling to realize the many things I could be doing.
