I realize that writing a book is not an easy job. My congratulations to the author for completing the task. I love post-apocalyptic fiction and eagerly seek out new authors willing to write this type of story. This book was a little disappointing and I urge self publishing writers to seek out a good editor. The sentence structure is poor in places and, in my case, this distracts from my ability to enjoy the story line. HOwever, it isn't the worst I've seen. Simple things like ending a sentence w ...more

“The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story” by Mr. Brian Kittrell is everyone’s worst nightmare. A country has bombed us with biological bombs. Nadene and her mother, Pam, decided to try to make it to Texas before everyone gets ill from the bombs. Along the way they pick up people who are also trying to escape. There is one problem, the bombs don’t make people sick, they turn into zombies. Will Nadene and her friends make it to Texas or will they turn into zombies themselves.

I must say that I didn’t stop

The Dying Times is a YA focused zombie story.

When I first started this story, I felt as if it might be a little too YA for my taste. You have Nadine gossiping and bantering with her best friend. I was almost ready to write this story off, then the action kicked in and I found it hard to put my Kindle down. I HAD to keep reading.

I think when the book really grabbed my attention is when Nadine and her mother met up with Wayne to flee westward. From that point on I was hooked.

One thing that I noti

The Dying Times is zombie fest of creepiness~!! 13 year old Nadene starts off her day as any other normal is mundane and uneventful, that is, until her stomach starts to hurt, warning her of danger yet to come. After a fire breaks out at school, Nadene goes to stay at her best friends house, while her mother is at work. There she learns from the news broadcasts that germ-warfare missiles are heading from Africa to the USA. Again, her stomach hurts and she doesn't yet know that th ...more

The Dying Times: Nadene's Story is the first book in The Survivor Chronicles series by Brian Kittrell, and I am super lucky to read this book which will be released on the third week of November.

I am not a zombie fan, but when I saw the blurb of the book, I was intrigued of what Brian's novel could give me so I gave it a go. I decided to read the first few chapters of the book and get a feel of how the novel would progress. Well, I didn't stop on the first few chapters; I ended up reading the no

At the moment, one of my favourite genres is zombies, so I couldn't wait to start this one. Unfortunately, I found that it wasn't overly captivating. I found the author had characters thinking things and then saying them out loud, which is distracting. The characters themselves were flawed, but not enough to make them endearing to the reader. I found I was a little blase when a character died. Perhaps this had to do with the length of the book, since it was quite short. I would have liked to see ...more

I'm kind of "Meh" about this one. Sure, it had zombies. And it was YA fiction, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But this one just seemed so obviously YA that I was a little embarrassed to be reading it. Not that anyone could tell I was reading it, since I read it via Amazon's Kindle app for the ipad. And I guess if I was truly embarrassed to be reading it, I wouldn't be writing a review. I just expected better things from this story. With May being National Zombie Month, why not review this ...more
That was amazingly bad. I read until they get to the first gas station. The cop up and quits his job. Everyone is rude and sarcastic to each other. I decided to skim the rest. A few highlights

- Officer Friendly remembers his fiancée and parents 2 days after they left their town. Hmmm why didn't you swing through on the way out and check/ pick them up?
-at the friends house they find that the bathroom is barricaded by a 5 yo zombie boy, but wait you then step on the half eaten baby on the floor an

3.5 stars I enjoyed the story but the lack of professional editing did take away from the experience. PA genre is hard to break into with something original and also hard to write about such an epic event in short stories or novellas. I hope the tale continues and the pace picks up. Character development wasn't as deep as I would hope but than again this seems like the start of a series. Will definitely check out more from this author

This book is like a low budget horror flick - bloody, gory, and just as cheesy. Bad makeup and costuming morph into grammatical errors that (sometimes) came across as character development but also muddied up the flow of the (somewhat predictable) story. Despite that, I found myself enthralled for the gore factor (in the exact same way that low-budget horror flicks draw me).

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for review.

Freebie !! I enjoyed this book, it is definately worth a read, it was a interesting plot although the book was about zombies (not my usual read) but found myself wanting to know what happens next,it is a classic end of time book, with plagues and virus's with a tad of paranormal in it (just a tad) not sure if there is a follow up book to this but I would purchase it.

For the most part, this book was quite lame. Nadene doesn't act like any teenager I've ever seen...she has the mentality of an eight year old. And the rest of the main characters aren't very believable or realistic. And parts of the story were just overly gross...a decapitated baby corpse??? Really?? Was that necessary?

This is a YA book. I often read them as I have two teens. I chose this book because my oldest is currently fascinated by the whole Zombie/Apocalypse thing. I found it a bit hard to read as an adult due to inconsistencies in the characters. I would have enjoyed reading this when I was a teenager, simply because the main character is also a teen.

Story line is interesting and engaging. There are a few grammatical errors that editing did not catch, but nothing that detracts from the story lines. Characters are realistic and dynamic. I would more of this series.

It was pretty much your basic zombie survival story with very little psychic premonition added to give the story a little more, not sure why that element was added but it helped move the story along slightly. otherwise an ok time killer, fast read.

A good story of zombie survival with an interesting spin on a youths perspective. There are parts to this story that I desired more from but all in all I enjoyed the story.
