respect all the respect to the that man of honor not just because
he was the one who planed the war
he stood against Sadat And Ismael
for many reasons I respect him but mostly because he admit the defeat at the end of the war
he just didn't lie like the president
I believe that the army has done the best it could do but the whole war idea was out of it's league
my best part of the book is when the Egyptians fooled the Syrians about Invasion the whole desert of Sinai and when they didn't Israel mov

The political aspect is described more in detail than the war events but this does not mean that there is any information missing from battles or war preparations. The Egyptian Arab relations along with the soviet and American and even a lot of the internal relations are discussed in depth.

Many of the statistical information and actual events provided by the author contradict with official data provided by the Sadat regime so its good to read diversified sources before drawing the final conclusi

Very good and structured analysis about 73 war. Yet there is a personal and buyist opinion about other people motives which not necessary to be true.

The same country, the same army, but a different commander, ambitious and hard-working and fully aware in hi work field, he convert the psychological and physical defeat to a historic victory.
This book is a message that says that one individual hard-working person in the right place can change the fate of the entire nation

A must read book for every Egyptian, especially kids at secondary school stage. May be the most accurate account of October 1973 war, An evidence hat you can be proud of your army and learn all the facts at the same time. You don't have to read a distorted accounts of the war that tells you that everything was done right and that we won every battle, you can respect your brain and still be as proud as everyone else who knows nothing about how the war started and how it ended. You can learn about ...more

I am not a specialist to know what is a military secret and what is not in this book, but the rhetoric of the writer is quite plausible. The info he mentioned in the book is common knowledge to the enemy, so he didn't commit any crime here. At the contrary, this book enabled him to show his analysis of the situation, and present to us a different perspective of the 6 October war.
Highly recommended.

This book is a real winner. Shazly comes across as a man of intellect and integrity. I really liked his analytical style and the amount of facts in this book. This is definitely an enjoyable as well as an informative read. I looked hard at Elazar's (Israel's CJS then) war memoirs to read the story from the other side but it appears that he never got around to finishing them and hence there exists no official copy.

And here comes the truth hidden from the Egyptians by the media.

Simply Sadat is not a war hero, he is an egoistic son of a ***** who made us lose the war, many of our soldiers lives and many tanks because he wanted to look as a hero!!!

this is an awesome biography which tells you how a team of beliefers can work together to reach the impossible gold with the help of God and how only one man -god curse him- can throw away all of their efforts for his own glory

The book is nice to get a peek on what happened during the war of 1973 to free Sinai. But there are sometimes too much military details that can easily get you lost. But overall, it's educative and will reveal a lot.
PS: don't act like a military expert after reading it, it's a mere scratch of military science.

Although the book talks about a very interesting period in the modern Egyptian history from the POV of key player, i find it very hard to read through. The style is quite boring and sense lots of subjectivity and ego in the tone of the author although i have no real concern about the truthfulness of his version of the story of what happened.

The book is a very good source of information about the 6th of October war between the Arab countries and Israel.
As in any war, the media coverage on both sides is 100% biased so the truth about who won or lost, can't be determined without books like this one. It has a fair amount of military science intro. No deep stuff, but sufficient for the purpose of the book.

A must read book. It shows different secrets that were hidden by the regime. What I liked about the book was not only the secrets Shazly exposed, but also, the personality of Shazly and how he dealt with different situations during his career.

ElShazly's book is a refreshingly objective take on the 73 war, what Egypt did right and wrong. Moreover, at times it felt like a great novel given the drama unfolding between ElShazly and his bosses--including Sadat. If you're a history buff, you have to read it.
