K.D. Absolutely
Ang Tundo Man May Langit Din literally means "Tondo Has Heaven Too." It was written by Andres Cristobal Cruz who was born in the early 1930's and was a teenager when World War II came to Manila. He was in the city during that time and he and his family survived by planting "talinum" (a kind of herb) that they pushed by cart and sold at Quiapo. If he is still alive, he must be as old as my parents.

At Liwayway Publishing, he was junior to Liwayway A. Arceo, contemporary of Benjamin Pascual and Bie

2nd year college ako nung binasa ko 'to.

This is one of those required readings for Filipino subjects in high school that I actually liked. With its plot's bones carefully molded at the joints to strongly deliver the meat that is the philosophy of the story, this is a good medley of social and political commentaries (Marxism?), a coming-of-age tale backdropped by the modern portrait of poverty and violence, and a touching romantic epiphany. It struck a chord with me when I first read it, partially because I felt the setting's descripti ...more

Nakatutuwang isipin na angko ...more

Boring. Same, repetitive issues/concerns throughout the book. Development of some characters towards the end was a bit abrupt.

I wonder if it would be okay to review this in tagalog. Well, technically because it was written in our native language. Here goes...

Hin

The first one that got me interested in Filipino novels. A feel-good novel that tackles issues in real life in such a way that does not bore its reader. One of the few novels that I have and can read countless of times.

I'm not into romance stories, but when someone asked me to read this novel because it might change the way I think about romance novels, I immediately grabbed a copy, and it didn't disappoint me!

I can't even be bothered to finish this. I've even resorted to simply reading the summarized chapters on the net. Just . . . no.
