In Marvel’s Jessica Jones S2E8 "AKA Ain’t We Got Fun", uptight and elite lawyer Jeri seems to contradict past opinions in coming onto ungracious lowlife Inez. Inez’s scars clearly remind Jeri of her own damage and this is an effective TV trope to justify the quickly closed distance and sexual allure. When we embrace someone's scars, there is no more distance.

Wyrick incites us to appreciate a worldwide gallery of women sharing in B&W photography their scars with a simple caption of first name, cause, and year. There is generally one image per model with a series for a couple like "Kate. Open heart surgery 2011. France" and the victim of a 2021 school shooting. (The Oxford High School shooting, I suppose.)

We are reminded of the burden of pain so many women encounter, such as around childbirth (Caesarean section scars, gravidarum surgery), along with other surgery, accidents, trauma, self-harm, domestic violence ....

There is an appendix with quotes from at least some subjects offering more details. I was drawn to one by an (old) friend who has scars like ones I have:

Karen. Page 39. "This is my Rock 'n' Roll SCAR! When I was in the band Inside Out, I was playing chicken in the slam pit with a pal from High School on my back! It was a kickass show with the bands Angry Red Planet, The Trash Brats and Inside Out. I was so drunk, I fell face-first into a table and gashed my chin open. I couldn't feel a thing!"
