Kink and the City;
This is the true story of John Smith. A man who discovered that unsuspectingly renting a room from a professional Dominatrix at the tender age of sixteen tends to influence character development. Years of playing in the London spanking and fetish scene followed until one day, unexpectedly, his fun and games came to an end. Now, almost a decade later, he's moving to Manhattan and determined to seek out other like-minded people to share his interests once again. Kink and the City is the hilarious account of what happened next.Without a drug addled past or even an abusive childhood to excuse his predilections he throws himself in where angels fear to tread. From downtown to midtown and out to the Hampton's he pursues his bizarre interests, dealing with recalcitrant housewives and adult schoolgirls, fearsomely skilled dominants, body building Amazonians, rabid fetishists, nervous dominatrices and spanking fanatics. Taking us on a very real voyage of discovery though the subculture of kink in Gotham, the author opens each new door with trepidation and holds it open for the reader to experience every new encounter, each more outrageous than the next...

The BDSM groupers might really enjoy this one. I'll admit I did.
This is Smith's journey from discovering his proclivities at the age of 8 to a time in his life when he believes he has what he'd been looking for all along. It includes all the ups and downs that come with finding your place within the 'lifestyle'. Smith is into spanking/flogging/caning. It's all written in an exceptionally palatable way. No edge play here, m'dears.
He has a great sense of humor which makes the journey quite enjoyable. But for the most part it was simply a great eye opener for me. My exposure to BDSM literature is for the most part erotic romance and bit of non-fiction instructional writing. This is neither.
Smith leaves the romance out of his recollections. There are references to a love life that happened to be with one of the same mind, but he never details that part of his life. Instead, the part he chooses to share includes the times when he solidly keeps his needs as a spanker separated from his needs as a lover.
He writes with an exceptional grasp of vocabulary and a style that both entertains and informs.
I do give this one a thumbs up and recommend it.
That being said, the man needed a better editor. For such a rich grasp of the English language, he dropped the ball grammatically. Punctuation, run-ons, and redundant words abound.
As much as I enjoyed following his journey and delving into the mind set of those who don't tie kink to sexuality, I'd never be interested in sitting down and having a drink with him.
He is exceptionally opinionated and self appreciating. For the most part if you aren't highly intelligent, successful and exceptionally fit he only has demeaning remarks for you.
The poor man truly is missing out. I grew up in that elitist bubble, and I have to say, having popped it I have met the most extraordinary people. To bellieve no one with a bit of flab would have the stamina for a good session demonstrates limited exposure. More than a few leathermen are popping to mind.
Even though he doesn't come across as one with whom it would be easy to appreciate, I did enjoy the retelling of his journey. It delivered what I was looking for, an easy enjoyable read that allowed me to experience a kinkster's different point of view.

I found this book to be extremely entertaining. Smith's climb up the "corporl" ladder in the New York kink community is intriguing, hilarious and very HOT!
