This book would be fun for young children in school because they will be able to relate to having a teacher. It will also keep the children's attention with the crazy things that happen in the story.

This is number four in the My Weird School series, but I understood what I was reading without reading the books in order. AJ, the main character, is in second grade. In this installment of the series he has art class with Miss Hannah, an eccentric lady who never throws anything out. I think AJ says things that aren't nice (about school and his classmate Andrea). Overall, this is a pretty funny book and the ending is really sweet.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

Meh. I wish the characters didn't say things like 'shut up' and 'I hate you' to each other, but I can see how they appeal to the target age group.

Mrs Hannah is art teacher. But Mrs Hannah were dresses made out of pot holders and collects garbage instead of throwing it out. Not only that she can make art out of garbage stuff. She's making A.J be partners with Andrea! A.J thinks this is the worst class ever.
Fun story!

This fourth book in the saga of Weird School has second grader AJ still having lousy thoughts of girls as so mega-superior that they must be belittled at all costs, especially Andrea, the brain he despises because 1) she's a girl, which is already sad in my humble (ahem) opinion and 2) she's a SMART girl, and better in every way as a result. (Sorry, AJ, but face facts, you're a boy and Andrea is too much of a woman for you to compete with, hah!). Then Ms. Hannah arrives, a woman in every aspect ...more

This one finds the principal (Mr. Klutz) offering candy to the kids, just if they can avoid fighting for the day. A bit of a let-down from the previous books, which had "incentives" offered if the kids were able to learn things, solve problems, read, etc. In other words, the "incentives" were a reward for some special achievement -- not merely for doing what one should be doing in the first place.

Plus, Gutman is having to push the "hatred" between A.J. and Andrea a bit too much. Initially, it w

While I am finding the story entertaining and I understand that this is supposed to be written as a second grader the poor grammar is bothering me. ("me and Andrea said" should be "Andrea and I" said.)I also find it slightly disturbing that no one says anthing to these kids when they are blatantly rude to other children and adults. I am not saying kids don't behave that way. In fact, as a children's librarian I see this and worse BUT if a child answered my question and added a "duh" to the end o ...more

Recommends it for: children starting to read chapter books
This is a fun story in the My Weird School series by Dan Gutman and Jim Paillot. I thought this was a fun introduction to different types of artistic expression and I love that Ms. Hannah makes art from reclaimed and unwanted items.

We find these books to be quite humorous and we are slowly working our way through this series before we move on to the next one. This was a quick and entertaining read and we are looking forward to the next book, Miss Small Is off the Wall!.

Ms. Hannah is the art teacher at AJ's school. She doesn't throw away anything. She makes it into art. Even when AJ blew his nose, she added it to her ball of newspaper. She didn't even have a trash can in her art room. It was a big mess in the art room because she didn't throw anything away. One day in art class AJ and Andrea had to work together to make a friendship picture. Their friendship picture was of a butterfly skateboarding because AJ likes skateboarding but he doesn't like butterflies, ...more

Ms. Hannah is Bananas is part of My Weird School series. It is about a boy named A.J. and his disliking of art. His new art teacher Ms. Hannah is very strange and collects garbage. She thinks that EVERYTHINH is art, and encourages all types of art. Although A.J. cannot stand art, by the end of the book he had found a type of art that he did appreciate! It is a fun book for a read-aloud. Good for early chapter book readers as well.

If your child is between the 2-4 grade levels this is a wonderful, silly, chapter book that could help with transition from picture books to chapter books. This book is wrote through the eyes of A.J. A.J. struggles with others in his class and the fact that he must take art. "Art is stupid", is his favorite line. The comedy and silliness of this book will keep the child intrigued.

we do enjoy this series a great deal. the author's ablitly to include the reader in the character's misadventures, and i love aj's ablity to overlook andrea's short comings as "a know it all" and emily's being a huge "cry baby" to still include them in his schemes...this makes them more lovable and childlike

Ms Hannah, the art teacher, is bananas. She won't throw anything away. She recycles all her garbage into art, and has the garbage man bring her stuff.

A.J. and Andrea make performance art together, but they still hate each other.

This series has been great for my second grader who didn't want to read. They are funny enough that I like to listen to him read out loud and interesting enough to him that he brings the book to me to read. Wish I could get more at our local library.

The art teacher considers garbage to be art and can't throw anything away. Does she have a problem?

Some if it was laugh out loud funny, but the ending should have been better.

Don't let your child read this if you have problems with words like "Stupid" and "Dumbhead."

Ms. Hannah, Ella Mentary School's art teacher, must be bananas! She wears a dress made of potholders she bought on eBay and doesn't own a trash can! She says there is no such thing as garbage, that everything can be turned in to art! Bananas!
