Innanzitutto Hermann Bro ...more

Finally finished my project to read all three volumes of Elias Canetti's memoir. The last volume, The Play of Eyes, takes place mostly in Vienna of the 1930s, where Canetti hangs out with all the cool kids of the time: Hermann Broch, Anna Mahler, Robert Musil, Alban Berg, and others. The book's title comes from the play of Anna Mahler's eyes, in which Canetti had great interest. His rivalry with Broch is another theme that runs through the book, as well as his deep appreciation of Musil. Canetti ...more

I did not enjoy this third part of the memoirs of Elias Canetti as much as the first two, but nonetheless a very well-written book. Too much reportage in this third, name-dropping the norm, but still the ending was well worth my time.

Wonderful book. As the last one in trilogy, it is a good ending to conclude his relationship with his mom.

I thoroughly enjoyed this autobiography, it was not top self-affirming and was a wonderful reconstruction of his experiences not just as they happened, but also how he felt about the experiences. I have never read Canetti before, but I want to read the other two parts to this Autobiography series, as well as his other works.

This is the last volume of Elias Canetti's autobiography and has as much intensity as the previous versions. The last scene with his mother is really something, thrilling. Only made me want to read Auto-De-Fé straight away!
