Written in 1875 and containing some inaccuracies this book details the life and times of Grace Darling, a lighthouse keeper's daughter and the part she played in the rescue of survivors from the Forefarshire alongside a wider discussion of the history of the Northumberland coast and other shipwrecks. I found the earlier chapters the most compelling, discussing the place, position and behaviour that was considered suitable for a woman from this era.
