Book Genre: Dark Comedy for Mature Readers

Avery Leigh will stop at nothing to get her boyfriend, Carter Thomson, back. A high school girl who has no problem saying the first thing that pops into her head, no matter how crazy, she finds Carter has not only stopped taking her calls, he’s started avoiding her altogether. Could it have been something she said? Carter, a sometimes naïve but always gorgeous basketball player, doesn’t mind playing the field if it makes him look good in front of his friends, but he’s really trying to figure out what qualities he wants most in a woman. Unfortunately for Avery, impulsive and outrageous don’t make the list.

In Loose Lips Sink Ships, expect the unbelievable as these high school teens cross every conceivable boundary and breach every ethical code. If you like your romances to be tongue-in-cheek, you’ll love the non-stop innuendo and flirting, because at that age there’s really only one thing on everybody’s mind. If you like your comedies to be over the top, you won’t be able to stop laughing when you see what kind of ridiculousness these two get up to. Because when it comes to Avery and Carter’s train wreck of a relationship, the only safe way to get involved is through a book.

Loose Lips Sink Ships is intended for mature audiences and is not recommended for those who are easily offended.

Our Ukrainian friend Marta tells us that the large Russian troop transporter recently destroyed in Berdyansk came to the attention of the Ukrainian defence forces when a journalist bragged about it on Russian TV. I find the story repeated in several places on the web, e.g. here.

I had always assumed this was just a figure of speech, but it seems that loose lips really do sink ships.

A friend of mine said this was "one of the funniest books out there" so I was very excited to read it. And, as you can tell from the 1 star, I was extremely disappointed. I get the book was trying to be silly with some tongue-in-cheek humor, but it was just AWFUL. The plot and characters were so ridiculous and so, so, SO over the top! The whole time I was rolling my eyes and wondering what anyone could find funny about this book. I didn't laugh once. It reminded me of one of those way-over-the-top comedy movies. Where it could be funny, but they go so overboard with the plot and dialogue it just becomes horribly lame. This book was such a waste of time and money. Ugh it was just awful.

I knew I was in for a rough ride when, by page 2, I was having difficulty reading through the poor spelling and grammar. I'm no grammar policeman, but it was really bad here. "You're dad is your pimp", as one blatant example of what I was dealing with. There were also many times in which names were misspelled: 'Carter' becomes 'Carted', and so on. This book needs the loving care of a good editor!

Despite the amateur errors, I was able to finish reading the book. It turns out to be a roller-coaster of events which take place during the course of a high school boy and girl breaking up and getting back together again. Along the way, we experience all sorts of random things from toothbrush abortions to Listerine-chugging pregnant preteens. It's all a bit over the top, but perhaps being shocking is the name of the game here? I would suppose many vanilla people might be shocked at this book. It seems to poke at just about every taboo and deviancy that it can, while drenching every sentence with sex. That is not to say that it hits on all of them - the author doesn't seem to have as much experience as they try to push into their book. Again, the more vanilla readers might get a bit put off by this book, but it's really not that far into the dark side.

My gut wants to say that this is a book written for teenagers, but with the level of storytelling regarding adult topics, I'm not sure that would be a wise target audience. Unfortunately, older people are just a bit too mature to relate to the story. I'm aware that the youth is not some model of purity and innocence, and they would be fine reading this book, but it doesn't mean it's material they should be reading.

I want to say that this is a book written for teenagers, but with the level of storytelling regarding adult topics, I'm not so sure even though the characters are teens.
Avery Leigh's life is in turmoil after her boyfriend, Carter, breaks up with her, and she determines that by hook or by crook, he will be hers again, so a long the way, we experience all sorts of random teen topics, abortions to pregnant preteens. It seems to cover just about every taboo and deviancy with nearly every other sentence full of sex.

I thought the book was crap, no proper substance to it at all, utter rubbish, but guess thats what you get downloading a freebe!!

Billed as a dark comedy for those of a mature mind, unfortunately I think I just read an edition with all of the humour taken out. I did persevere in the hope that somehow it would improve, it didn't. I found it badly written, and possibly sets out to shock rather than entertain. The only thing that I can say for this book is that I finished it, and that means I'll never be tempted to pick it up again. This was possibly the worst book I have had the misfortune to read all year.

Terrible

This novel is poorly written with a story line that only an uneducated brain dead idiotic girl would enjoy reading. I hoped it would get better, but it didn't.

I feel like most of the reviews of this one touch on most of the issue I had with this (one of biggest being ). It is billed as a dark comedy, and I will admit that is something I rarely enjoy regardless of the medium so it was an uphill battle from the beginning.

The story follows a teenaged couple that have broken up, they enjoy making peoples lives miserable, don't care who they hurt, and we are supposed to... cheer for them to try and get back together? I honestly mostly stuck with this because it's one of the oldest books I've added to my TBR and because it's very short (under 200 pages).

I was happy to see that the racist comments by the protagonist were directly challenged and addressed, so it gets a point for that. But so much was just over the top and even though it is obviously intentionally it was shocking. It also felt beyond dark humour, given the age of the characters. It's not meant to be taken seriously, but I couldn't enjoy the humour which left for a very strange reading experience.

I couldn't finish this. It wasn't funny, it was sick and disturbing. I found myself gagging within the first few pages. There is no way I would recommend this book to anyone. I did keep trying with this one. I finished half of the book hoping it would get better because of the reviews I've read, but sadly, it just kept getting worse.

The Characters in this book may be teens and preteens, but their actions and thoughts were just WAY to much for me to believe. This may be billed as a YA book, but there's nothing YA about it BUT their ages.

All in all, for me.... this was just wrong.

This book is not what I expected at all. I would have liked to know that I was reading about teenagers who are partaking in this crazy activity. From the begining, i honestly had no idea what was going on and with who was it going on. It was a good laugh and a break from the typical romance books that I read. But honestly, when is it okay to get a 12 yr pregnant and over look it that it happened. Like someone can realisticly say "oops, I got your sister pregnant, but we can sill be together". HA!!

I was going to give this book a 3, but I completely forgot I'd even finished it. This was a deeply disturbing book. A 12 year old gets pregnant by her sister's boyfriend and nobody bats an eyelid? Said boyfriend hooks up with a teacher and nobody cares? All the scheming was completely adolescent and childish. Oh, and I may never eat Doritos again.

Very disturbing but funny

I thought that some of the things that happened in the story were very disturbing, but it was hilarious! Some stuff was just a bit too disturbing to even find funny at all. I wished that the characters were adult instead of teens, morally, I would have found it funnier. Overall, I enjoyed reading this outrageously ridiculous story.

What did I read

I have to say this is the stupidest book I've ever read. From the cool ranch Doritos sperm, drug addicted mom, 12 year old pregnant child I can honestly say this book was garbage. I'm but even sure I can say I understood what the author was trying to portray with telling this story. Don't waste your time....avoid reading this crap.

I started this book because it was recommended as funny. I also knew it was a bit raunchy. But within the first 10 minutes of reading it was clear this was way past a bit raunchy. It may be funny. I haven't gotten to that part yet. But it is past my level raunchiness.

I was a little dubious about reading this book but a few pages in and I was sold. the story is possibly a little predictable but still exciting. I wouldn't say it is a feel good book as such but it does make you smile.
In general this is a pretty good short story and I would recommend it to others.

An update has fixed the grammar and punctuation errors but the story still lacks any sense of good taste.
