Raccontare è resistere: la citazione da Guimarães Rosa posta in epigrafe a questo libro sembra racchiudere il senso di un’esperienza umana, letteraria, politica. In una lunga conversazione con Bruno Arpaia, scrittore italiano che per inclinazione letteraria e conoscenza del mondo latinoamericano rappresenta per lui un’ideale sponda dialettica, Luis Sepúlveda affronta tutti i temi che lo coinvolgono e lo appassionano: la sinistra ieri e oggi; la sfida dei movimenti no-global; il significato dell’impegno ambientale; la letteratura latinoamericana al di fuori delle schematizzazioni e dei luoghi comuni; cos’è stato per lui, fin dagli anni dell’apprendistato, lo scrivere, quali sono stati gli autori formativi e quali le affinità; in che forma si può raccontare la lotta, il carcere, l’esilio.
E ancora: il rapporto e il confronto tra Sud e Nord; il tema, intensamente sentito, vissuto ed espresso, della marginalità; i giudizi, sempre influenzati da una passionalità che Sepúlveda non nasconde, anzi dichiara, su altri scrittori, sul giornalismo d’oggi, sui luoghi e gli ambienti in cui ha vissuto dagli inizi del suo esilio europeo.
