The RAND corporation did some undercover work for the US government during the war in Vietnam interviewing captured VC and other insurgents (and, probably, some bystanders) and these interviews form the raw material from which mr. Hunt has put together this book. You can learn about the radical changes that French colonialism inflicted on peasants, artisans, the ruling classes and so forth from a more standard historical account (and you should, Hunt takes some basic knowledge for granted) but t ...more

I read this for my Vietnam class during college. I loved the dialogue that was attributed to the peasant class during the war. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a interesting and different view of the Vietnam War.
