non sempre mi trovo d'accordo con le conclusioni che polillo trae sulle carriere di alcuni musicisti o su alcune evoluzioni del jazz, ma c'è tanta di quella passione e curiosità intellettuale in questo libro che ritornarci su ogni volta è un piacere. ...more

Sicuramente il testo più letto dai neofiti di questa meravigliosa arte.
Un compendio, si sarebbe detto una volta, della storia del jazz, divisa prima cronologicamente e poi per biografie dei principali protagonisti.
Ottimo per iniziare, quindi, ma con prudenza, e per vari motivi:

1) il testo è datato (1975), e anche se il buon Franco Fayenz aggiorna il tutto, rimane il fatto che la struttura dell'opera, il taglio con cui fu scritta risulta ormai datato (soprattutto per quello che riguarda le avangu

Un libro fantastico per chi vuole avere il quadro complessivo sul Jazz.

Considering it is an encyclopedia, it was a good read, taking one all the way through from the beginning into (somwhat sparsely though) the present. The "politically incorrect" language is a crack-up (and does get a bit old after a while), and of course, the author is anything but objective, leaving it rather clear, what he considers Jazz and what not.
