Fascinating!

The book showcased some of the most fascinating hand drawings and renderings that I ever seem, and I've seen many due to my profession. It's also sad that a man with such talent died at a relatively young age, which left me wonder about his impact in the architectural world if he still alive.

I was attracted to this book by the seductive pencil drawings and amazing models...in a style I emulated for a time as an undergraduate. I recently rediscovered this book on a shelf and realized how interesting the process is as well, the projects are generated through selective bricolage of various images with tentative relationships to the site or theme of each project.

It’s a beautifully written and illustrated book. A poetic exploration in architecture. The book’s ten unbuilt projects by late architect Douglas Darden are probably the greatest examples of allegorical architecture ever created. Darden seamlessly spatializes and represents complex ideas like identity and death by using collage or composite ideograms, stories, locations and atmosphere in his drawings.

The book inspires me to draw, to read, to write, and to think about what I know of architecture.
