Two Christmas treats from "USA TODAY" bestselling author Carole Mortimer
"The Yuletide Engagement"

When Patrick McGarth offers to take Ellie to her company's Christmas party, she reluctantly accepts. If nothing else, she can show the world--and her cheating ex-boyfriend--that she's not nursing a broken heart. But Ellie has to ask herself, "what" does a wealthy and powerful man like Patrick want with an ordinary girl like her? It doesn't take long for Ellie to find out--and it's hard to resist the lure of mistletoe...and marriage!

"A Yuletide Seduction"

Everybody knows her as Jane Smith--a successful businesswoman. What they don't know is that Jane has also successfully distanced herself from her past. Then she meets handsome Gabriel Vaughan at a Christmas party. He's determined to get close to her and seduce her. But sooner or later he'll recognize her...as a former society lady with a secret.

I enjoyed both Christmas romances. The first one was my favorite though. These are wonderful for any time of the year.

Strong characters, good stories!

Both stories contained strong women with assured self worth. More inspiring than the weakness displayed so frequently in other Harlequin novels! The storylines were very well written.

Two stories in this one. I really enjoyed the first one but I kept wondering why the male lead just kept walking into someone else’s house without knocking.

Story two was just ok.

THE YULETIDE ENGAGEMENT
3.5 stars — It was a typical Harlequin, where the heroine makes assumptions and the hero isn’t clear and so things drag out longer than they should. I think I would have enjoyed it more if we’d gotten Patrick’s POV as well. I enjoy the fake relationship trope, and this one had some good moments in that respect. But I will admit I don’t know what was different for Ellie when she finally gave him a chance to speak vs the other times. Maybe it’s really a 3 star, but I’ll stick with my gut.

A YULETIDE SEDUCTION
DNF @ chapter 3 — I realize I’m only 10% into the book, but I just don’t have a good feeling. The heroine is making out the hero to be some sort of villain, and she’s actually scared of him. I’m sure it’s all some misunderstanding or whatever, but I don’t have the patience for it.

Another two story combo. The first story involves a young woman having a date for her company's Christmas party. Her brother announces he has fixed her up with his boss. Not sure she wants to got with her brother's boss and what happens is the story. The second story is about a young widow who has completely changed herself and is living a very different than what she formerly was living. What happens when she runs into the one person who has affected her life the most at a party she is catering is the tale.

I am going through lots of books trying to decided what books to keep and what to send away. I found this one and realized I really don't remember the story. That was completely average. But I remember the cover because I keep thinking it looked wrong for sweet average stories. I would put it down and go to find it and think it was a slasher horror novel.

The stories were okay, but I found the author's excessive use of exclamation marks to be extremely distracting.
