Ok so… first the good. The author recognized that Christopher Columbus knew the earth was round, not flat. Good. Also, Queen Isabelle was against slavery, and the author did a good job showing that - most never mention Isabelle’s disgust for Columbus’ enslaving of some of the natives.
Now, the bad. The fixation displayed by Queen Isabelle, Christopher Columbus, and his entire crew on the gold in the New World is too extreme. Did they want gold? Yes. However, their ultimate goal was to find a trade route, and secondarily convert anyone they met along the way to Christ. Their first words when they saw land were not “we’ll be rich!”, but “Hail Mary.” The motive the author placed on them is historically inaccurate and overblown.
At school , my teacher told us about Columbus who discovered America but he wanted to find another route trade :( he failed but he discovered more that he thought !
