I wouldn't say that I have a 'negative' view of Mills and Boon books but I have a negative view of Mills and Boon books, largely their titles which are often Terrible.

Plot: Usually these style books start with the leading couple - Elizabeth and Richard - being forced into a marriage that neither wants, and the reader just gets to sit back and enjoy the fireworks and the slow development of their romance. There were no fireworks and the romance kicked in so suddenly that I was a bit disappoi

Interesting premise. Horrible title. Disappointing relationship between the protagonists. Loose ending.

This book has a horrid title but don't be put off by that. The story was good and engrossing.

Elizabeth de Lacy took care of her brothers after her parents died. She clashed with her uncle and was sent to a convent. Here uncle had a daughter, who was to marry the de Lacy's enemy, Richard Malinder. When she dies, Elizabeth is substitute for the bride. It starts like any medieval based romance. Forced marriage, love, etc but there is a mystery and it hooks you for the ride.

I enjoyed this fast, eas

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and interesting throughout. I did not like the front cover and almost didn't read it because of that, and the title...but, since I have enojoyed Anne O'Brien's other books, I was willing to give it a try. The true meaning of the title is that there is to be a marriage of convenience for the sake of alliances. A lot of treachery follows and the plot thickens. At the end I found myself wanting a sequel that would continue the story. 4.5 stars for this ...more

Damon good read

Very good read it kept me interested through the whole book. I would have slapped down Anne many times though for her disrespectful ways toward Elizabeth. I love how Ellen spoke up for herself. I wish I knew what became of Nicholas Capel but good read this is my second time reading this book and I love it evermore

This book had a lot of potential, so I'm kind of bummed that it ended up being just "meh" for me. I'd be willing to give the author another try i guess. There's just something super disappointing about a book that could have been awesome and wasn't.

The romantic plot is even interesting, but there are many "dark details" , and that's not very my style ... so, three little stars ...

From forced marriage to a love connection. This story teaches the importance of looking deeper than skin level for your mates qualities. The heroine came to the marriage after living a hard life in the convent. She was not the picture perfect bride, but the hero over looked her flaws. This was a great love story without the negative attitude and mistrustful that is typically seen in a forced marriage novel. It was a welcome change to see mutual respect and a couple that worked together. I gave i ...more
