Apparently, this is how I spent part of the weekend at my mom's house for her birthday, perusing the childrens' books sitting in her spare room.

Read too much like a textbook for the targeted age range. I had a lot of these "little classics" when I was younger (although, not this one) and most of the condensed classics were actually interesting enough. This one was pretty dry.

I guess there's only so much you can rework from the original.

This book does not get the characters to Oregon! haha. I read a lot of these illustrated classics as a kid. I think this is the first one I've read as an adult. It was okay but not great. Needed a little more action, or to keep the order of events a bit more clear. Maybe less un charitable descriptions of Native Americans but I understand that was the way the people on the Oregon Trail would have thought/interacted with them.

Another children's edition with pictures on every other page, but this story is so boring I don't know if I'd have been able to make it without the pictures. And they never really travel the Oregon Trail, so the title is a little misleading.
