Almost gave it a one star review, but I figured the actual exercises were decent so allowed a two. Some of the advice is good, but much of it moralizes food, repeatedly focuses on negative body talk and pointing out negative body features, and I felt had fear mongering like if you do (*gasp*) gain more weight than recommend, you'll be stuck with a "pooch" forever. After skimming through the book I felt bad about myself which is not what I was expecting. Much of it felt like a diet book. Some bizarre advice like to always engage your core while breastfeeding... What?
Lindsay covers nutrition and diet while pregnant. I skimmed over the nutrition portion, as I felt I knew a lot of what she covered, and my main reason for reading the book was to educate myself on the exercise part of pregnancy. She divides the exercise portion into trimesters, which is what I was interested in. As I read, I realized she had DVDs that covered the exercises! I finished the book but found buying the DVDs outright was much easier to follow. I'd still recommend reading the book, however.
Started this before I even got pregnant. Quick enjoyable read. Pretty basic but I still learned stuff. I also got her pregnancy videos and they are great too.
5/7/13- Picked up this book again after baby. Her tips for shedding the weight are good. Looking forward to following her plan, especially the CFS method.
I really love Lindsay Brin! She understands moms, she understands that sometimes we are going to slip up, yet she still makes me want to do better. She's a great motivator! This book is great for now (just had a baby), and I will definitely pull it out when I get pregnant again.
This book was okay. I think it will definitely be useful to a lot of women so I'd recommend it. I can't quite put my finger on what kept me from liking this book more. Sometimes that just happens.
