Becoming A Humor Being has a fairly overstated title; the content doesn't really support the premise. Whatever talent Steve Rizzo had for stand up comedy did not translate to writing. This book has ideas scattered that should have been better structured to provide the reader a more even experience. There was a repetitiveness to ideas that, instead of helping build an argument with some valid concepts, became annoying; the text could have used much more editing even if it reduced the content by one third or one half as much. Readers, as good writers know, want to be shown not told. Rizzo could have done a lot more showing, especially in a book aiming to be about humor. Better self help books by better writers cover much the same territory. Rizzo had an angle, with his comedy experience and his humor, that he did not make the most of; this book disappointed.
