This is a level 2 reader, and I would place it as a middle of the line level 2. A beginning reader may have struggles with it but with help could read it but the more advanced reader could probably be okay with it alone. I however, read it to my 3 year old granddaughter out loud and she really enjoyed it. The story flowed as a story and although I'm pretty sure it's based off the movie to me it didn't 'not' include anything as the story flowed nice and made since (unlike other books from movies we've read) This isn't necessarily a 'Barbie' book although she is the main character but she's named something else and is just the main character. a girl is stranded on an island and doesn't know who she is and makes friends with a few animals... eventually a guy finds her and becomes friends with her and then eventually one thing leads to another and she gets her memory back and all is right in life.

An island girl and prince fall in love, but return to his kingdom to find his parents have promised him in marriage to someone else. A princess.
