Maybe it's my state of mind, but I just had to put this one down at page 206; more than half-way through. The writing is good and the characters are engaging. I'm still undecided as to where it didn't sit well with me. Too many preternaturals and too fluffy. It was reading more like a sci-fi/fantasy; reminiscent of the bar scene in Star Wars. Demons, witches, elves, blue things, hairy things, bloaters, a diamond encrusted, sentient computer black widow spider tattoo, imps, elves - you name it ha ...more

I liked the start of the story. Action, feisty heroine, mysterious hero, comedy and great chemistry... Again, things started out great, but kind of fizzled out in the middle. After that, everything just fell into place like a stack of bricks.

Demons Are A Girls Best Friend is the first book in an all new series by Linda Wisdom and an Urban Fantasy from SourceBooks.

Book Blurb:

A Bewitching Woman On A Mission...

Feisty witch Maggie enjoys her work as a paranormal law enforcement officer - that is, until she’s assigned to protect a teenager with major attitude and plenty of Mayan enemies. Maggie’s never going to survive this assignment without the help of a half-fire demon who makes her smolder...

This book is set in the same "reality" as Wisdom's Hex series, but - pardon the pun, it seems to lack some of the magic. The author assumes a lot of background knowledge on the part of the reader and I have difficulty seeing it either as a stand alone book or as a continuation of the series. While The book does add to the "reality" created in the hex series, but leaves the reader confused when attempting to add to it. Both the demon realm and the Hellion Guard both seem lacking. The beginning of ...more

There are only a few things wrong with this book and as a whole maybe that's what threw me off.

I don't feel like going into too many details because frankly my apathy won't allow it.

Needless to say, I thought the dialogue was a little stunted, the suddenness of the relationship and subsequent events (view spoiler) ...more
Demons are a Girl's best Friend was a kindle cheapie recently (might still be) but I am half way through and even though it seems like it has 'all the right stuff' - kickbutt witchy heroine, supernatural law enforcement, fae BFF, hunky demon love interest and the fate of the world hanging in the balance if a prophecy comes true - I am just not feeling it. I keep asking myself, "Is it worth finishing?" Even with the number of books I read, it is rare for me not to finish a book, but I think I'll ...more

I hadn't originally planned on reading this series but when A Demon Does it Better became available on NetGalley I quickly changed my mind. Only having to read one book in order catch up on Linda Wisdom's Demons's series is an easy task. Demons Are a Girl's Best Friend's colorful characters, whirlwind pace and happy ending make this novel easy to love. This is my second witchy read this week and I'm beginning to think that my perception of them is all wrong! Maggie is a powerful, no-nonsense preternatural who's s

Up until the halfway mark — and I mean that literally, since I was reading on my Kindle and had hit 50% — I really liked this book. Maggie is a kick-ass witch with a sarcastic bent to her humor, and Declan is a sexy half fire-demon who is just different enough from Maggie to cause serious sparks (ha, accidental pun). But rather than watching the sparks fly with sexual tension and wariness, Declan and Maggie give in to their mutual attraction without much fight. And

Maggie is an old witch, ok, not that she looks old, but still she has the wisdom of age. She works for the Hellion Guard, a secret police-like agency for paranormals. Her new job is to protect a teen, who seems to have a lot of enemies including some ancient Mayans who want to take over the world. She literally runs into Declan, a smoking hot partial demon that runs a nightclub when a bust goes bad. The two have definite sparks and Maggie's sharp tongue is a pleasure to read about. The two have ...more

A really good, fun, easy read. It was full of humour with a Kick ass main Character, Maggie who is a witch. Ok, shes not that original . . . smoking hot, full of witty comebacks, can handle herself in any shape or form, knows magic , wants for nothing, has awesome friends and has the hottest guys after her . . Standard heroine stuff but Im a sucker for these type of books and this delivered big style. Hot stuff (literally) in the shape of Declan, a fire demon and an apocalyptic plotline where yo ...more

I have been a fan of the paranormal genre for as long as I can remember. DEMONS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND is one of my absolute favorites. I was instantly sucked into the plot and couldn't think about anything but reading this book. Linda has made her way into my all-time favorite authors list. If demons, witches and a fun-filled read is what you are in the mood for, this is the perfect book to curl up with.

First in the Demons Fifth in the Jazz Tremaine (a.k.a., Hex) paranormal romance revolving around a group of witches, demons, and other paranormals who kick ass. The couple focus here is on Maggie O'Malley and Declan.

It's also been published under the title, Best Hex Ever as a spin-off from her Jazz Tremaine / Hex series. (Turns out her publisher simply wanted a new look and not a new series.)

My Take
This story does not fit within the humor of the previous Jazz Tremaine stories. In fact, I kept checking/>My
I had a fun time reading this book. Full of quirky and sassy characters, and sentient jewellery, with an interesting (but mentally undemanding) plot, it’s a fun and dpfast paced read that I found quite entertaining.

Smart and Sexy Debut

Hellion Guard Maggie O'Malley is used to being the Big Witch on Campus. She and her team track down and capture all those pesky preternatural criminals who break the worst laws. She's sort of like...Glinda with a gun. And a killer bod, a killer spider, a killer attitude...

Maggie definitely rocks the deadly vibe.

That fact is certainly not lost on Declan, new owner of Damnation Alley, the underground club that gets trashed within ten minute

This novel was one of those that suffers from the blurb on the back of the book not matching so well with the actual story that is read. Sure, everything mentioned actually happens, but there was a point where I wondered if they had put the wrong blurb on the back. The Mayan plotline wasn't nearly as involved as I thought it was going to be, which was a bit disappointing because it was one of the main reasons I picked the novel up. Basically, the blurb leads you to believe tha

I read to chapter four, then skimmed pages. To me, it was boring. It felt more like a teen drama, instead of adult romance.
I gave it one star, because the story was boring. SND I didn't finish it. Honest opinion.

I have to be honest. I abandoned this book without properly finishing it. I found it difficult to do so, despite my great dislike for doing that to a book. I like to finish reading things, even if they are disappointing. Unfortunately, I couldn't get myself to do that here.

While the premise of the book was interesting enough to begin with, I found the execution rather lacking. The idea of Maggie being an magical officer, working with other magic users or supernatural creatures was interesting.

Maggie O'Malley isn't a typical petite blonde in skimpy club clothes. She's a centuries old Witch and a part of the Hellion Guard. The Guard is a select police force for the supernatural community that lives amongst the uninformed average Dick & Jane. Maggie's group followed a lead to capture a Bloater at Damnation Alley. Everything went as planned until the Bloater blew up and splattered icky goo all over Maggie and the club. First impressions matter! It's a good thing Declan, the club owne ...more

In this book we meet Maggie O’Malley, a members of a special ops military Task Force called the Hellion Guard. What happens when you pair an irreverent witch known for stomping ass with a demon, add a talking spider tattoo and teenage rebel? You get the makings for Linda Wisdom’s introductory book in her demons series. Demons are a Girl’s Best Friend is humorous and easy to read.

The heroine, Maggie, is an irreverent, quick to kick ass witch. She has a black widow living tattoo which adds a breath of fresh ai

This is my first book I have read by this author. I was excited to start this one since everyone raves about her writing and characters that she can come up with.

As I started reading the book, I was sucked into the realm of demons, witches, fairies and other supernatural creatures. I was excited to read about a heroine that not only kicks butt, but has a personality of humor and sensitivity as well. I liked the character of Maggie. She could kick butt with the other creatures and embraced her w

My thoughts:

Where to start, we have a witch and a demon, some crazy Mayans, and doom on the horizon. Ok back to the beginning. The book is about Maggie who is a witch and works for the Hellion Guards. They keep the supernaturals in check and sees to that no humans know that elves, gnomes, trolls, warlocks, or anything like that exists. She is kick-ass, 700 years old, and can take care of herself. She has attitude and I liked her. Not to mention that she has one awesome side-kick, a t
