This turns out to be printed in 1999 so is 24yrs out of date, to remind any future readers there are many more up to date books on diabetes and how to manage it out there. I found this in a bin in a charity shop and should've taken a longer look at it. The picture by the way is of the back of the book, I can't imagine why. Well the front cover isn't much better I suppose!
It says it's a Doctor's Handbook for Using Foods and Supplements to Slow and Reverse the Complications of Diabetes. And it's written in doctor speak which doesn't make it a particularly easy book to read, too much complicated information for your average non-medical patient.
The book is all doom and gloom and I wonder if it was written to frighten diabetics!! It's certainly a complicated book to read anyway. It's called an improvement programme or program but I wasn't really notching up many improvements, apart from eat much less sugar and sugary things, which is the very first thing all new diabetics are taught and is drummed in to you from the very beginning. The chapters aren't conducive to reading either, it's practically screaming out statistics, graphs and other assorted complicated things at you from the first page, so much so that I began to wonder if I needed a degree in maths to read it. I really wouldn't recommend this book, as I say it is 24yrs out of date and there really are much better books for diabetics out there, the information changes slowly I know, so even books in the last 5yrs or so aren't out of date. It is just that this book is.
Having had Diabetes for a couple of years and been provided with medicines to 'manage' the illness it was quite refreshing to read this simple book that concentrates on mitigating the illness rather than managing it. Although not promising full reversal of the illness Patrick Quillin gives lots of useful advice on diet that can help diabetics and non-diabetics alike.
