What fun it was to read poems about the birds that I love to watch! Bird lovers in Egypt will be familiar with many of the birds described in this collection of poetry - the bulbul, hoopoe, flamingo, grey heron, little green bea-eater, and more! The watercolor illustrations are a beautiful reflection of the imagery described in words.
This book would be an excellent addition to the classroom - either as part of a poetry unit or, better, as part of a science unit. The details provided about the different species - like the Grey Shrike impaling his prey on sticks! - may spark interest in the local birds and lead children into independent or class study. I know I couldn't resist learning more about the feeding habits on the Grey Shrikes!
