Rob Herwig was de zoon van de gekende publicist van tuinboeken, Arend Jan Herwig.
Rob Herwig genoot een opleiding als economist, was achtereenvolgens directieassistent in een schoenfabriek, vertegenwoordiger voor een Duitse firma uit het Ruhrgebied en directieassistent bij een aan- en verkoopbureau voor tuinbouwmaterialen in Den Haag. Hij verliet de harde zakenwereld en op aangeven van vader Arend begon hij in juni 1965 aan zijn eerste boek, wat meteen een groot commercieel succes werd (250.000 verkochte exemplaren). In de volgende jaren ontpopte hij zich tot de meest gelezen auteur van "groenboeken" ter wereld. Hij heeft meer dan 70 boeken geschreven en is vertaald in meer dan 20 talen.

Rob Herwig was the son of Arend Jan Herwig, who was himself a renowned publicist of garden books.
Rob was educated to be an economist, was successively assistant director of a shoe factory, trade representative for a German firm in the Ruhr area, and assistant director in a firm of horticultural equipment. He left the harsh world of business and began to write his first book on gardening in June 1965, encouraged by his father. This book was a great succes (250.000 copies sold). Over the following years he became the most read "greenbooks" author of the world. He has written over 70 books and has been translated in more than 20 languages.
