This book will capture your attention in the first few pages. The central character is a young man surviving the unfavorable odds of growing up in Detroit as the child of a drug-addicted mother which a debilitating secret and dismissive, uncaring father. Cameron's story presents all of the stereotypic challenges to young black boys/men growing up in public housing. The story to me brought back how so many children grew up back in the days. It reminded me when I grew up in the projects and had that one family that everyone knew. Cameron Johnson was the type of person whom had so many dreams but so many blocking his dreams.

Excellent book! I was happy to see that Cameron and Rayshawn were able to rise up from their rough beginnings and make a successful life for themselves. The ending was simply perfect!
