This was one of my favorite books as a young adult. I was in some kind of phase of self-righteous introspection so a book like this really worked me into a frenzy. It has, though, withstood my hopeful maturation. I've really enjoyed the introduction. The rest of the book is abstractly interesting.
A nuclear detonation may be the ultimate visual orgasm and the parallel with television is haunting and utterly apt. But I wonder if Joyce Nelson's perspective would have been different had she, back in 1992, been able to watch Jersey Shore.

This is one of the best critiques of television I've ever read -- Nelson details the coma induced state elicited by television and the corresponding social/political/ecological consequences.
