Let's Play House: A Book About Imagination

Rate this book
Panda, Sheep, and Owl may be different, but that's what makes playing together so much fun. Whether they're pretending to be jellyfish (blob blob blob), creating ice-cream masterpieces, bravely confronting puddles, or snuggling up to sleep, these three best friends know just how to make everyday things extraordinary.

With adorably stylish illustrations and gently repetitive, sweet-as-can-be stories, each book in the Hello, Friends! series addresses a different preschool concept, like sharing, imagination, bravery, and bedtime. So gather up all four and prepare to have your socks charmed off!

My toddler loves these oddball little books. This one very accurately portrays how the imaginations of small children move and change as they play!

One of a handful of darling new "Hello, Friends!" board books featuring Panda, Sheep and Owl--best friends and partners in puddle-jumping, ice cream-yumming and dozing off. In Let's Play House, the muskateers' fort-building plans are foiled by an old foe--squashiness! Panda bails on the too-tiny house, taking the polka-dotted blanket roof with him! When Sheep and Owl censure Panda for his treachery, he boldly rejoins, "I'm not Panda...I'm a jellyfish." Panda's improvisation saves the afternoon, and three bedding-bedecked jellyfish are soon happily blobbing about the living room! Anna Walker's watercolor and fabric scrap illustrations are among the loveliest of late.

The title describes this as "a book about imagination." I'd modify that to "a delightful, creative book about imagination." Owl, sheep and panda explore ordinary objects around them with a sense of wonder, using them in different ways that will inspire your child to play with the world anew. My daughter loves the illustrations, and loves that I do different voices for each of the three characters.

Such a cute board book! I love they turn into jellyfish at the end (sorry about the spoiler)as Aurora is fascinated by jellyfish...they are her favorite at the aquarium. The illustrations are just so warm and fun too.

I think the more striking message for me was not using imagination, but being flexible/creative when things don't work out. I love the hello, friends characters and illustrations.
