A pompous, insufferable book who honestly reads more like a vanity project than something with a clear aim. What is not senseless is a platitude, and what is not a platitude is unoriginal and better treated somewhere else. Not to mention that its 'current' take on aesthetics is from a quarter of a century ago — I only give it two stars because I found some interesting artists through it. For a good book on aesthetics and the evolution of its core concepts (outdated as well, but enjoyable, original and still useful as a starting point even though much older), read 'A History of Six Ideas', by Władysław Tatarkiewicz.
