My All for Him

Rate this book
A moving collection of messages mostly in prose and with some in verse, from the pen of the founder and leader of the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in Darmstadt, Germany, brilliantly conveyed in English translation. Each meditation is quite short, powerfully expressing challenging aspects of the demands of God upon Christian believers, how to live for Christ and why this "Way" makes for true happiness.

I loved the emphasis in this book on simply learning to love Christ our Bridegroom. I was encouraged, challenged, and moved by the many beautiful portraits painted, the prayers and hymns and the heartfelt love of the Father expressed by Mother Basilea in the pages of this book.

The third time reading this little book and I receive something new each time, like a gift that keeps on giving. Basilea had a profound revelation of what it means to truly love Christ. I think this is a book that is important for every Christian to read. It’s deeply challenging and equally inspiring, kindling a renewed love and devotion for Jesus each time I meditate on the beautiful reflections contained in this small but mighty book.

Basilea Schlink, My All For Him, (Bethany House Publishers, 1971).

Basilea Schlink was the founder and leader of the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in Darmstadt, Germany.

“It is the driest times, in the times of greatest hardship, that we may bring Him the choicest fruit.”

“A repentant heart will drive you into the arms of Jesus, for Jesus and the repentant sinner belong together.”

Rev 2:4 – First love
Matt 9:15 – Bridal love
Rev 19:7-9 Wife prepared
1 John 4:19 – Love Him

“Loving Jesus means to lavish on Him the offering of oneself.”

“Only one thing will satisfy Jesus, your love.”

“Love holds nothing back”

“From Peter's great sin of denial sprang the tears of repentance, and those tears enhanced his sight so that he could see Jesus as he is: as the Man of Sorrows, filled with endless love, who can still lovingly behold those who tortured Him.”

The bride of Jesus longs that nothing should drive her Bridegroom from her heart. That is why the bridal soul fights 'to the point of shedding blood' (Heb 12:4).

The greatest gift, the greatest pledge of the Bridegroom Jesus: His indwelling! That is sufficient for us. His indwelling is more powerful than all temptations and hardships and burdens. Then our times of darkness will only serve to join us more closely to Him.

The Dark Love – The bliss of Jesus' presence foretastes heaven. We therefore cannot bear it long now. Therefore He withdraws His perceptible presence and leads the bridal soul along dark paths (S.S 8:5).
Her soul is parched. She sought Him and did not find Him. It became dark in her soul. The Bridegroom's love is truly evident in this. He makes her more lovely and more lovable than she was before. For on this desert path, her Bridegroom far away, she knows her poverty and weakness. Humiliated, she becomes humble. Acknowledging her frailties and sins she weeps over them anew. Her tears are more precious to the Lord than anything else.
She “loved much”, it was said of Mary Magdalene who washed Jesus' feet with her tears (Matt 20:22). It is the way of the cross, of the fellowship of sufferings which revels treasures to us; deep mysteries and infinite treasures which lie buried in the depths of bridal love.

Suffering brings glory – He says 'Matt 20:22' to those who want to know the reality of His grace, to taste His love, and experience the most intimate unity of love with Him.

This book was so good!! Every Christian woman should read this. I will say the beginning was a little slow and I wasn't sure I would finish it but I'm so glad I did. I feel like I learned so much and came away with a completely different outlook on my life and who I want to be. Will definitely be re-reading this one often!

What a challenging and beautiful devotional. I read it all at once, now use it as a devotional, one chapter at a time. It was a revelation to me of the love of Jesus and His desire for our love in return.

A spiritual classic that I read slowly. It is full of poetry and uses the vision of Christ as the Bridegroom. A song of songs in many ways.

Some good reminders about the love Jesus. Very heartfelt from the author. Additionally, there was lots of beautiful old and rich poetry quoted. Overall however there were some strong ascetic vibes with a strong tone of what we must do. Additionally, there were some sections where the author spoke from God’s point of view, but the wording choice didn’t necessarily seem strongly backed by actual scripture.

Mother Basilea emphasizes, illuminates, and delivers what it is to be the Bride of Christ. How we should think, how our hearts should react to His love for us. This book is life-changing, great devotional even, it stirs your spirit in the best way. If you want to walk intimately with Jesus, this book really puts gas on a burning heart. She speaks on repentance, humility, suffering, and first love for Jesus. The title gives it all away.
