Sound insights into applying family systems theory to individual client cases, and brief (too brief, maybe) discussion of useful techniques (shaping, reinforcing, reframing, prescribing the symptom) from behavioral and strategic therapies. The Wachtels are good writers who balance the poetry/wonder of psychodynamics with the pragmatism of CBT.
Slogged it out. This was a decent text, and would be quite useful to early career psychotherapists wondering how to deal with the client’s perceptions of their intimate partners and relatives.
