Life is hard. Every Christian, no matter how rich or poor, how mature or young in the faith, faces difficulties that make him or her wonder where God is. Writer Dave Branon began to walk life’s difficult valley in 2002 when his 17-year-old daughter Melissa died in a car accident. This book grows out of his own journey and his desire to provide hope to the hurting. Each devotional chapter is based on a scriptural truth, is realistic in its approach, and is supplemented with questions for personal reflection. In an easy-to-read fashion, Dave helps to answer the need of the struggling Christian for certainty and assurance of God’s love.
The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
Following a Psalm 23 outline, the author shares part of his family’s journey after an accident takes his teen daughter’s life. Much encouragement and truth for all believers suffering loss ~ and really no one is exempt in this life from loss whatever form it takes.
I appreciated the insight and wisdom that Dave Branon shares in this book. I also greatly appreciate his honesty about their family’s sorrow after their teenage daughter’s death in a car accident. Although he never lost his faith in God because of this tragedy, he’s open about the things that he’s wrestled with about her death. He never fails to take us to the Bible to find comfort and insight into our questions about tragedy and loss. I highlighted many passages in this book about God’s sovereignty, and reading this book gave me much to think through as I look at the unexpected loss my own family has experienced. I’m glad to have this book on my shelf, and it will be a guide to help me know how to be of true comfort to others.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
It’s a wonderful well written short book on the author (personal) testimony on how he get over the death of his daughter in a tragic car accident. Through his “Beyond the Valley” experiences, the author taught many precious gem of life and able to sustain and overcome the onslaught of pains from that personal incident. Definitely a good reading guide for those who are going thru such (beyond the valley) trial and learn from the author on how to trust God in the midst of the storm.
