Maine Classics: More than 150 Delicious Recipes from Down East

Rate this book
Maine food is about putting on a bib and getting messy with lobster in the summer. In the winter, it's about tossing brisket and potatoes in a pot on the back of the woodstove. Maine Classics brings the carefree spirit of those who work the land and sea to life.More than 150 simple, straightforward dishes are organized by the shore, the sea, the forest, the farm, the garden, the dairy, and the bakery. Celebrate Maine's bounty with recipes such as Ham with Fried Apples, Corn Fritters with Maple Syrup, Classic Lobster Rolls, and Pickled Fiddlehead Ferns. Stories of farmers, lobstermen, cheesemakers, and old-school bakers "infuse our cooking and inspire us to explore our own culinary legacies," say award-winning authors Mark and Clark. Chock-full of full-color photographs, this cookbook is definitely a Maine classic.

In the process of reading but thought I'd say that so far this is a really wonderful cookbook. The recipes are somewhat common but that is what I was looking for - to bring some of Maine home to me. I wish there were more food photos and less photos of boats and the seashore in Maine. I've already found 3 recipes I will make and I'm about 30 pages in so that's a good sign. I will update soon. Oh, I do have a bone to pick: two chefs, two authors and they still needed a ghostwriter? At least they give her credit on the book. But oh how I wish that people would write their own damn cookbooks!

I did finish it and frankly I loved it and don't care who the hell wrote it!

I was looking for a Maine cookbook to really get my memories of Maine pumping and this is it. It's such a gorgeous cookbook and the recipes and great reading too. I adore Mark & Clark and did not realize when I bought this that they were the fellas behind Stonewall Kitchen, products I've used for years!

I love their food and their passion for Maine. It's exactly how I feel. It was like going home to Maine. made me long for it even more but so happy that I can make seafood like I am in Maine right here in Florida.

I cannot believe all the times I was in Ogunquit that I didn't go to their restaurants! Dammit Jim! I will return though and that is stop numero uno!
